Romana woke up on the ground, she whined at the pain she had suffered from the Daleks as she struggled to pull herself up; suddenly the communication device flashed, as if it was working once more.

"Brax I can speak to Brax again," she said as a flicker of hope came upon her and her eyes lit up.

"Cardinal Braxiatel," said the voice on the end. He was tired, no doubt about it and was now starting to wonder what kept him on an ancient old dusty society- so afraid of change.

Romana missing from Gallifrey had given him many a sleepless night, even if he didn't have those unrequited feelings for his President. He had always been fond of her.

He had always adored her and loved that young, naïve, innocent nature of hers. He knew he was far too old to think of Romana in a romantic sense, however Gallifrey did not own that part of him that wanted her.

He knew she would never look at him like that. She belonged to another and not him.

"Braxiatel," said the sweet voice on the line, her voice sounded shaky.

"Romana?" Braxiatel let out a sigh of relief. "Where are you?"

"Braxiatel, they took Etra Prime out of time. I don't know, please come and get me," she whispered; as a tear rolled down her face, she certainly did not want to cry, she bit her trembling lip in an attempt to stop.

Both Braxiatel's hearts sank in his chest. She was terrified; he could hear it in her –sweet, beautiful- voice. He wanted to find her and keep her safe, hold her in his arms and tell her how much he loved her.

He should have told her before she left, but he didn't. He did not know why but he couldn't say those words to her, maybe it was the fact that he knew he was way too old for her and for that reason Romana only saw him as her mentor and nothing more.

Then he heard her, she was sobbing but was trying to hide it, he could hear how she was trying to suppress the sobs that were burning their way through her chest, he could almost see her, kneeling in a corner like a child who is afraid of the dark while trying to be the strong Time Lady he knew her to be.

"Romana, I will do my best to find you. Are you hurt?" he asked firmly -so she would not notice his trembling voice, and at the same time softly hoping to soothe her fears.

"I am afraid so," she whispered. "Help me Brax," she pleaded as her voice threatened to break.

The sound of the Daleks coming down the metal corridor brought a chill to the air and raised the hairs on the back of her neck. She could clearly hear them as they rolled down towards her, they would take her away, and unconsciously she clutched the communicator tighter and tighter as she heard them approach, and then they were there.

"Communicator device detected. it must be destroyed." Came the cold, emotionless voice of the Dalek.

"No," she whispered. It was her life line, without it she'd never be found. She attempted to get to her feet.

Suddenly a sound chilled Braxiatel to the core.

"Exterminate!" Then her cry stabbed the air and the line went dead

"Romana!" Braxiatel cried out in utter horror "Daleks," he whispered. The Daleks had taken his President and he had no idea if she was dead or alive.

Romana lay motionless on the floor the Communication device next to her on the ground, shattered and with it her life-line to Gallifrey.

She started to come round. She had to get out of there, she had to escape. She stood up her whole body was weak and as she looked down at her almost deathly thin frame, she remembered when her body had once been strong and healthy, full of life an energy, now she looked like death had warmed over her.

She managed to open the door with what little strength she had left. "Have to escape, have to survive," she whispered as she attempted to slowly walk through the deserted corridor like a mantra, hoping it would give her strength, her only focus was escaping and that was why she managed to overlook several Daleks just around the corner, when she was detected she attempted to run; but then she was hit by a laser not just once, but multiple times by many Daleks.

They were torturing her and she screamed over and over in pain until she had blacked out then she knew no more.

For days she lay in the dungeon that had become her home, every part of her body ached and she was all alone and terrified. She would drift in and out of consciousness and she would constantly hope for a change, that day the corridors remained quiet, she breathed a sigh of pure relief "not today" came her weakened voice, barely more than a whisper. They would not come for her today.

The Doctor arrived back on Gallifrey after years of being away after been sent for. He parked his TARDIS outside the Palace knowing it irritated the Time Lords and walked inside.

"I should not be here," said the older Time Lord, "President's have come and gone since I was President, but my advice is still sought from time to time. The then President Barely into her first term as President was on an official visit to Etra Prime when the planet vanished."

"Vanished? Lord President," asked the Doctor.

"It was taken out of time and space," replied the President.

"One year later, three hundred of our own people who were at the summit on Etra Prime, were found with Time distortion in their bodies, all dead"

"So I take it your new President was one of the ones who turned up dead?" the Doctor asked.

"No, Doctor, Romanadvoratrelundar remains missing."

"Romana!" The Doctor gasped in complete shock, a sea of emotions crossed his face and his eyes shone with worry.

His hearts sank in his chest as guilt and regret welled up inside him. He had no idea she even became President. He had not come back for her when he promised, he promised himself that he would not just abandon her and yet he had. His Romana his beautiful young Time Lady who stole both his hearts.

If only he had come back; If only he had not taken her back to Gallifrey, If only he had stayed on Gallifrey with her and not leaped and ran across the universe without a care in the world.

He had been gone many years, had many companions but none of them were her, none of them even came close to her, none of them made him feel the way he used to feel about her, the way he still felt for her. If he ever found her he would make sure she knew and take her away with him.

"Well how long ago was this?" Finally finding his voice.

"Twenty years ago, Doctor."

"And you have done nothing in twenty years?" his question met no answer and the silence told him everything. "Why not?" he shouted in utter anger.

It was now that the Doctor was eyeing the President with suspicion. Why had it taken twenty years to bring her home? It was clear the time Lords cared very little for other worlds, but Romana? she was one of them and they did not seem concerned in the slightest for her welfare.

"How about finding Etra Prime? How about finding Romana? Does nobody care she is missing?"

The Doctor felt sick beyond belief, he should have come back before. Romana, she was the love of his life, her smile the light in the morning and they had done nothing to bring her home. He would rip apart the cosmos to find her if he needed to.

"I do," said a voice. He spun round facing his Brother. Braxiatel, who entered looking older and more tired since the last time they had seen each other, The Doctor stared into his eyes intently.

"I tried to find her. I did what I could I tried," he said. His face showed grief and his voice the tiredness of an old man who has lost everything. "The Daleks took her."
