"No," said Romana leaning against the TARDIS; flicking switches and pulling the levers down. "You are not going to buy a bow tie."

"Will if I want," sulked the Doctor.

"You're sulking," pointed out Romana.

"I am not sulking."

"Come on Doctor, don't you think you too old to play dressing up?"

"You are not my mother!"

"And you are not my child," Romana spat back

"Now you find your companions because me and Kaatje will be going shopping."

"But.. but that's not fair! How come you two get to shop and I don't."

"You hate shopping, besides it's a girl's day and last time I checked you weren't a girl."

"I could be," he mumbled. "Don't you have something to tell mummy," turning to his little daughter and resting his hand on her shoulder.

"Daddy says bow ties are cool even for Time Ladies."

Romana rolled her eyes. "Well don't listen to Daddy, because Daddy is ancient."

"I am not old," groaned the Doctor. "Tell her what we watched," he said turning to Kaatje

"We saw Mary poppins. Daddy says Mary poppins is a Time Lady because she wears a bow tie like him."

Romana sighed. "Really Doctor, we are living in 2011 not the 60s or the 50s."

"Uncle Brax says Top hats are cooler than fezzes and bow ties.."

Romana tried to strife a laugh, "well good look trying to convince her Brax is wrong."

"Ha, well, Uncle Brax is jealous that my bow tie is better than his top hat."

Romana shook her head "You two are impossible, Come on Kaatje" she held out her hand to her daughter as Kaatje took her hand.

"You stay with your brother, I'm sure you have lot of catching up to do."

The Doctor frowned. "Brax? As If."

"I wish you two would at least try to get on."

"I've already told you, it's him, it's all him. There are trails of crumbs, of jammy dodgers to his room."

"Really Doctor," she said shaking her head

"He is telling the truth my lady," said Braxiatel, standing in the door way. "I may be impartial to the odd Jammy dodger, or three. You may slap my hands later. Enjoy the shopping trip, we will be fine won't we Thete? do not worry about us."

"hmm What are you up to Brax?"

"Me Madam? My hands are clean."

"I know that look, you are plotting something."

Braxiatel stuffed his hands in his pockets. Whatever do you mean? You must be mistaken I am not doing anything."

"Hmm," said Romana ." Just behave you two."

The Doctor waited until Romana and Kaatje had departed from the TARDIS

"Right, time to buy a bow tie."

"And time for me to buy another hat," said Braxiatel. "You know, if Romana finds out we went shopping she will probably kill us, quite painfully," he added.

"Only if she finds out. Bow ties are much cooler than Romanadvoratrelundar." smirked the Doctor.

"I assume you never told her that?"

"Of course not, I happen to enjoy living," the Doctor answered.

Rory woke up to an empty bed and an even empty room. He let out a deep sigh allowing his brain to wander. For some reason His brain was clearly trying to think of Romana for a reason, as if to let something out, some truth, some memory of something he had forgot. He also knew that truth was in that watch some how.

He sat up and rubbed his blood shot eyes forcing his eyes to work, eyeing the watch on the floor, where he had thrown it days ago. He got up from the bed and picked it up. This watch was familiar to him. It held his past memories and maybe his future. He continued to hold it and run his fingers across it. Faint voices were heard from the watch.

"You betrayer of Gallifrey," echoed a voice, another voice was heard a woman an older woman; ""find Romana before they find her first."

"Who?" whispered Rory, but the watch was silent once again.

He pulled on his clothes and headed down stairs, finding Amy sat in the arm chair with a distant look in her eyes. It had been the same since River had brought them home; she rarely even spoke to him, other than to haul some insult at him.

"He promised,He has had the whole summer, and well he promised to find Melody and what's he doing? Swanning around the universe with a new girl." Amy finally said.

"Her name is Romanadvoratrelundar," the name falls from his lips, each vowel of her name said as careful as he could as if he was addressing a deity or some powerful force that would rip him apart if he said her name in any other way.

Amy frowned. "What do you really know about her?" she demanded.

"I don't know anything, but she is like him; a Time Lord."

"Well you seem very taken with her all of a sudden," Amy snaps.

Rory shook his head. "That's not true, but we need their help to find our baby." In some ways Rory felt sick at the thought of seeing Romana and wanted to bury himself in a deep hole just to avoid her and being plagued by the nightmares. He no longer had any desire for what was in that watch but the words about finding Romana before the others did bothered him. He didn't know who the others were, or why they were after her.

Romana walked in to the console room. "Doctor," He was sat on the chair.

He did not look up as she put a hand on his shoulder. "What's wrong?"

"I tried to find Melody but no matter how hard I try, I can't find her... it's over. I have let Amy and Rory down and the clerics win."

Romana was stunned "What, so you are just giving up?"

"Yes, I am giving up."

"No I won't allow you to. Not now; not after all this."

"We lost, can't you see that Romana? We lost."

"I see you being a coward," Romana said quietly. "What about the Doctor I knew who went out in the universe to make a difference.? He never gave up. What about when I was gone twenty years when the Dalek's took me... did you and Brax ever give up? Well Doctor? Are you really going to be a Coward?"

"What if it was me they took, what if it was Kaatje, would you give up? Would you give up on us?"

"You know I wouldn't."

"Well then, I can't let you."

"Right," said the Doctor jumping up "I have a missing baby to find and a reunion with her parents. So you and Kaatje need to go with Brax. You need to be dead for a very long time."

"What?" Romana asked stunned.

"I need you and Kaatje to be safe if I send you away with Brax you will be I need you to be dead to keep you safe."

"Oh no you do not. There is way in hell I will let you do this alone."

"For once you need to trust me."

"Trust you? I can't even trust myself how can you expect me to trust anyone else?"

"I know but just this once please. If you can't trust me then trust Brax." He hated the thought of Romana trusting Brax over him but if it kept her safe then he didn't care. Brax and the Doctor had never been close or got on with each other. It had been that way for a long time.

He glanced over her shoulder "You better take care of them,"

"I shall" said Braxiatel putting a hand on Romana's shoulder. "Come, my Lady," he said softly, slipping his hand into hers.

"No," Romana said definitely "I am a Time Lady I am not one of your companions Doctor, who runs at the slightest hint of danger. I will not be pushed aside, while you leap into dangerous situations alone."

"It's not open for discussion, my Lady," said Braxiatel.

Romana spun round angrily . "So you two have being plotting and scheming behind my back have you?"

"Everything I do my Lady. is or for your benefit."

"This is you, this is all down to you. Oh it's you so I don't see why I should be surprised. I bet you were planning this since you found me. You always got some plan. I have not forgot how you betrayed me by nominating Matthias as President instead of me."

"I thought I had explained." Braxiatel sighed.

"And here again you are doing it again." She pinned him to the spot with an intense ferocious stare. fixing him with the sort of look a wolf gave a terrified rabbit, just before it was eaten by it. "How dare you!" she growled. "You will not make decisions regarding me."

"What in Rassilion's name gives you that right?"

Braxiatel had forgot how angry Romana could be how quickly she could turn on you.

The Doctor stood far off, observing the scene trying not to be dragged into their fight

"I think we should all calm down" he chimed in, causing both of them to look over towards him. "Romana, maybe I should explain," said the Doctor.

"Be quiet," Romana snapped.

"Ha," that told you," Braxiatel smiled until Romana scowled at him.

"It's just dangerous, I want you safe."

"Dangerous! Did you say dangerous," she shouted. I was there when half of Gallifrey turned into mind numbing Zombies. The free time virus, then the Time war I was tortured, not to mention twenty years with the Daleks and what the Clerics did to me."

"Exactly," said the Doctor. "You are not stable."

"You want to repeat that?" Romana hissed angrily, raising her hand she struck him across the face. "Stop treating me like a weak willed little girl, or perhaps you want me in the kitchen cooking and cleaning for you."

"The only way you will get me to leave is if you drag me out."

"Then I take that option," replied Brax as he lifted her swinging her over his shoulder. She was so light it was no effort at all ,as she beat her hands against his shoulders. "Brax put me down, put me down right now.. I will never forgive you for this never!"

The Doctor sat by himself; he was alone once more. He had practically pushed Romana into Brax's arms and thrown his chance of happiness away, sending his own child with her. He doubted Brax would keep his hands off Romana, knowing exactly how Brax felt for her and the state she was in due to the Time war and the clerics. In a way he recognised it; she had survivor's guilt, but he could not reach her.

The phone started to ring but he ignored it.

"Doctor. Doctor, can you hear me? Are you ever going to hear this? You don't even know you have an answer phone. How can you be so clever and so completely stupid at the same time? If you can hear this, please pick up the phone. Don't get confused - I'm not invisible or trapped in a space ball or something, I'm just talking on the answer phone. Just pick up the phone! You said you'd find my baby. You said you'd find Melody. Have you found her? Because you promised. I know she's going to be okay. I know that she grows up to be River, but that's not the point. I don't want to miss all those years. I can't stand it - I can't. Please Doctor, please. Okay, phone me back as soon as you know something. Please Doctor, at least do that. As soon as you know…alright, bye."

The Doctor banged his head on the console in total despair. Regretting sending the family he loved away, but he did it for their own safety. Romana and Kaatje meant everything to him and for letting Amy and Rory down.

In his dreams Melody turned into this horror known as River Song who would chase him across the universe to kill him, to kill Romana and his young daughter, but if finding her would prevent all that then he had to least try.
