Romana had screamed in horror at seeing both the Doctor and Braxiatel fall to their deaths, tumbling through the time vortex. She had stood there and screamed and screamed as it closed and both were gone. She was not aware when she had stopped screaming or when her knees had buckled beneath her, nor when Narvin had caught her as she started to fall to the ground. Nor had she been aware exactly when she had simply sat on the ground where Braxiatel had once stood when he had sacrificed himself to save her. They had all stood there in shock

Narvin had held her in his arms as she struggled from his grip, throwing herself onto the tried to reach out to Romana but she shook of her hand.

Although it was not the Doctor from her universe, Braxiatel had been her friend. No, that was not really true. He was her Tutor such a very long time ago, and then an advisor and protector. Then a friend. But then he had become so much more to her...someone she had allowed herself to feel something for and to allow into her hearts, both of them.

There were many times between them that she had come close to kissing him...even telling him that she loved him, but she had done neither. Why, she asked herself, had she not uttered those words to the Time Lord she loved? Instead of hiding behind her fantasy of being with the Doctor whom she had not seen for years, pulled apart from the anti time virus that now affected him. She had lost her Doctor so many years ago, forced to exile him. Now Braxiatel was gone too. He had sacrificed himself to save her, to save Narvin and Leela. It was all far too much and she felt the pain inside her like her two hearts had been pierced.

She fell to her knees at the very spot, half in shock and half in total despair, not uttering a single word. Her two friends remained silent for quite some time, grieving the loss of the two time lords.

Romana sat for many hours on the floor, deep in thought and not speaking. Every now and again a tear would fall down her face. She simply wrapped her arms around her knees as if she was a little girl again.

"Romana, we must keep moving," Narvin insisted in a deeply annoying tone, breaking the silence that had fallen. She stayed still and would not move, taking a few deep unsteady breaths in an attempt to control her own emotions.

"How long has she been that way?" Narvin demanded, concern etched on his face. He had left after the terrible event but had come back later to find Romana still in that very same spot. He cared deeply for Romana although not straight away, but as they had been thrown together he had become her friend and would gladly have given up all his regenerations to take her pain away.

She sat shivering on the ground. Without thinking, he took off his jacket, draping it over Romana and then sitting beside her. Narvin was not sure what to say, what could he say?

"Hours," Leela replied, "she won't talk. She just sits. I did not realise she would take Braxiatel's death or end so badly." But how could she not know? She had seen the way Braxiatel looked at Romana and had seen the way Romana acted around Braxiatel. It was obvious that they both felt something for the other.

"Romana?" said Narvin. She did not look up straight away at his voice. Her eyes just looked dully down at the ground.

Finally, after minutes of silence, Romana spoke."Brax," she whispered as the tears streamed down her face. Before long she was wailing and sobbing with every breath, remembering how he had nursed her to health, advised and cared for her, and she had allowed herself to feel something for him. No, Braxiatel was much more than a friend, much more than her adviser. She had fallen in love with him but she could not tell him.

Narvin had never seen Romana cry before and he was no good at comforting. But Romana needed him.

She sighed. "I saw him fall," her voice broke as she started shaking and more tears fell down her already tear-stained face. Narvin wrapped an arm around her as she leaned into him. "I loved him," she choked back her tears. Narvin held her tightly as she cried, sobbing with every breath as she clung to him.

"I was in love with him and I never told him," she choked out as he gently wiped her tears away. She rested her head on Narvin's shoulder as he tried to bring some comfort to his President. Of course, he knew Romana was no longer President, but in his eyes she would always be his President. He would gladly stay at her side in the difficult days to come for Romana. He would take care of her. She was Gallifrey, and he lived to protect and care for his President.
