PROLOGUE

Sophie leaned back against the railings, her blond hair flowing around her gently in the breeze as she gazed at the other children who were all oblivious to her presence.

Throughout the day, they came and went, until more and more began to leave, until she was the only one left in the play area.

She rose slowly, staring out beyond the grounds one last time, only to stop for a moment.

Sitting on the corner of the street was an old blue box. The words "POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX" scrawled across the top as it glowed dimly. Its pain was old and faded, but surprisingly not chipped, and its doors were locked shut, but looked as if a good yank or push could open them. Sophie knew she shouldn't leave, but curiosity got the better of her as she wandered out of the iron cast gates.

She stared at it for another moment, one thought wandering in her mind, before she ran her fingers over the box.

'Had that always been there?' she gently pushed against it but it was locked, turning around she walked back towards the gates that lead back to the school. She was breaking the rules just by going out of the school. One of the rules of the school had being to never venture out of the school gates, for their safety, but what danger could they be out there? thought Sophie silently to herself.

She was so deep in thought she didn't see the on coming car that sent her flying through the air at great force then everything appeared to go black.

.oOo.

Sophie's eyes slowly flickered open as a blinding white light assaulted her vision as she became aware of the pain in her head, which slowly gave way as other pain came forth.

Her legs were numb, and seemed temporarily immobile, and her arms ached as if heavy weights had been pressed down upon them. Machines flickered and beeped as they showed her steady pulse.

She tried to push herself up into a sitting position, but it took energy that she didn't have. An IV tube, taped to her hand, inserted an unknown fluid into her.

Then she noticed a simple, white, band wrapped loosely around her wrist with two simple words written upon it. TEST SUBJECT

It scared her. What did it mean that she was merely just a test subject? Why was there no name? She tried to remember but her head throbbed.

'Where am I? How did I get here?' thought Sophie silently.

Images flashed through her head, blurred and incomplete, but they appeared to be memories. A school, a blue box and a car, but none of it made sense to her. They were all jumbled inside her head like a jigsaw.

Hours seem to pass, her legs she still couldn't feel. "I can't feel my legs!" She screamed, as tears rushed down her face. She struggled to pull herself up, but she was simply too weak.
