chapter 2 will be up soon please review

"She has two hearts," Gwen told Jack as she and Owen made their way back into Hub.

Jack almost choked on his coffee. "That's impossible! There is only one person we know with two hearts and that's the Doctor. He's the only Timelord left...right?"He didn't believe that The Doctor could have been wrong when he told him that he was only one left. Although there had been several half Timelords, but even then they only had one heart.

When Jack entered the medical room, the young woman was sitting up in the bed. Jack was grinning like a Cheshire Cat. "Capt Jack Harkness and who are you?" he held out his hand to the woman.

"Jenny," she replied. However, she didn't take his hand but instead eyed him suspiciously.

"What species are you?" asked Jack, getting straight to the point.

"Timelord, well, Timelady - I guess is the accurate name."

"You look human," replied Jack.

"You look Timelord," Jenny retorted smartly. "I was looking for my dad," she added.

"Who is...?" Jack asked, looking at her curiously.

"My Dad's The Doctor." She told him, ignoring the surprised look that crossed his face. "I was created in a machine with the Doctor's DNA, but then I was shot...it's complicated but basically he thought I was dead and by the time I had woken up, he was gone."

A tear fell down Jenny's face and before she knew it she couldn't stop, more tears followed and streamed down her face. Jack, seeing her distress, pulled her close and hugged her tight.

Jack just couldn't help himself. She was prettiest girl he had ever met and he just could not stop thinking about her. But she was the Doctors Daughter -- to him, that meant she was off limits. The Doctor in a temper was not a pretty sight.

The Doctor knew he was a flirt, but Jack didn't want to flirt with her... he wanted to know her. Unfortunately, something in the back of his mind told him The Doctor wouldn't like that much.

The Doctor sighed. He knew his time was coming but he felt he could do so much more. He didn't want to let go just yet...he liked who he was; he was scared of what came next. The Ood had given the prophecy that something was returning and he was to die at the end of time, they said.

He had burned the Master's body; he was dead, but somehow part of him had survived. But how?

Travelling alone had being hard somehow, he'd thought it would be easier but it just kept going wrong and he missed the company that stopped him feeling alone. That vital companionship that never failed to stop the despair he often felt and the rash decisions he often made.

But then again, the pain of losing them stopped him taking on anyone else. Rose, Martha, Donna - in different ways he lost them all.

He had abandoned Rose, this was all his fault, but was there really another choice? Probably not. Martha? Well she had to go; she had a life to lead and as for Donna he could have done something... anything for her not to be dead to him. She had absorbed the Time vortex but more than that, she had taken his mind. Then again in a way so did Rose and he had healed her...

Maybe he could have healed Donna too; even if he had to regenerate it would have been worth it. But it was too late... too late.

But now here he was, back in the Master's clutches - or so he thought, with no escape but then, completely out of the blue and so fast he could barely remember how it had happened - Jenny and Jack had turned up to rescue him and Wilf.

All this time, he had believed that Jenny was dead but now she was standing right in front of him... except now, they were all stuck in orbit.

If only he could figure out the entire prophecy, then maybe he could change his fate.

It is returning, she is returning, he is returning and they are returning... but too late, far too late, for he has come. He knew that it must mean the Master, but he was drawing a total blank with the rest of the prophecy.

"Oh! I am so thick!" The Doctor exclaimed, slapping himself. "She is returning! It meant you, Jenny!" He paused, a thoughtful look crossing his face. "But the big question is... What happened? I thought you had died."

"Well, I was asleep and eventually I woke up...but you'd gone." Jenny explained, smiling with happiness at the fact she'd finally found her Dad.

The Doctor slapped himself again. "Of course! You were in the first 15 hours of your first regeneration - your body would have shut itself down to heal itself."

"The Doctor is brilliant at leaving people behind," Jack told her, grinning. "You abandoned me."

"Did I? Busy life," replied The Doctor. He couldn't believe Jack was going to drag that up again.

"But seriously, Dad, why did you leave him behind?" Jenny asked.

"I was Busy," The Doctor said again.

"Is that what you're going to do to me?" asked Jenny in a small voice.

"No. Never," The Doctor said, looking at his daughter.

"But what about Rose, Martha and Donna? You travelled with them but you never ever mention them, why?"

Jenny was pressing him for an answer but the Doctor didn't want to answer the question on why he kept running. He wasn't completely sure of the answer himself.

Finally he looked at his daughter and said, "Because it hurts. They can all spend the rest of their life travelling with me, but I can't spend the rest of my life travelling with them. Humans age and die, imagine watching that happen to someone you love. We Timelords have to live on - that's the curse of being a Timelord." His voice was full of raw emotion and pain.

Jack glanced at The Doctor, he looked different from the last time he'd seen him. He seemed broken; most likely from all the loss he had suffered. He probably often wondered why he kept going on with it all. It was a question he often asked himself. What's the point? And then he wondered why Donna wasn't with him... obviously something had happened between the Daleks being wiped out and now to stop her travelling with The Doctor. The last he'd seen of her she was still with him and he himself had walked off with Mickey and Martha. What had happened after he'd left?
