Just a short time ago, things had been very different for Narvin: he had a life for one thing, a career and even a beautiful Time Lady who had agreed to marry him. Now it was all gone, leaving Narvin alone with his thoughts, his memories and the same reoccurring nightmares over and over again. His young daughter, the daughter he never even knew he had until it was to late.

Emmaline.

She had fallen through a Time Fissure, and her screams on Gryben would forever haunt him - the very last word she had screamed, "Daddy!" had shattered his hearts. His daughter's death could have been avoided if he only he had done the right things. And the scene continued to play in his mind.

I know I made a mistake, I was not a father to you but I want to be allowed the chance to put things right, to be your father... me , you Romana and the baby...we can be a family." He held out his hand to Emmaline, a final plea for her to change her mind. She hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take his hand.

But then she stumbled.

He remembered yelling hoarsely and trying to grab hold of her as she fell into the Time Fissure. Their fingers had brushed together, so lightly that he might have imagined it.

"Emmaline!" he had shouted, his voice mixing with Damon and Romana's agonised cries. They could all hear her echoing screams, but one scream sounded particularly clear to Narvin.
Narvin blinked and pushed the agonising memories to the back of his mind. He could not do this today, but he had to. Every day since her death had become a living nightmare where he saw the scene playing back in his head, it never ended. He was haunted by her death and he was responsible for it at least in part. He could blame Braxiatel as long as he wanted, but the agonising truth was it had not been Braxiatel nor Romana who had rejected her it had been him, and he knew he would certainly have given up his remaining regenerations to have had that last chance of knowing his daughter.

"Daddy!"

Then there had been Romana, his beautiful President...magnificent, intelligent, wonderful, brilliant irreplaceable Romana and she was gone. If only he had been there to stop his President being taken against her will from Gallifrey. If only he had stayed longer when they had grieved for Emmaline together and not left her all alone...If only, if only...

Now he had nothing - it was all gone. Oh, there was his career but what good was that, without Romana and Emmaline? Actually, if he was honest he did not really have his job either. The CIA was crumbling around him, and Narvin was beyond caring, even Gallifrey was falling apart around him and that no longer bothered him.

"Let it die," he hissed angrily at Braxiatel, something that had even shocked Braxiatel. He raised an eyebrow as a deep crease appeared on his forehead. Braxiatel was tired, tired of seeing pain on this level on Gallifrey. He knew of course he was partly responsible for Emmaline's death, how could he not be? He had pushed her into working for the CIA; if he had not she would be here on Gallifrey with him - well, maybe not with him, after all, he had been her Tutor, he had taken advantage of her and he knew eventually she would have got bored and moved on with someone her own age, but still at least she would have been alive.

Braxiatel was overcome with guilt and not just about Emmaline, but Romana also. He deserved the nightmares, he knew this; if he had done things different his psycho of a nephew would not have used Romana as a hostage to get himself free from Gallifrey.

He couldn't bear to imagine what Bainbridge was inflicting on her this moment. He remembered the fear on her face she had been terrified and brave all at the same time.

"Co-ordinator, We will find Romana and bring her back," Braxiatel said in a serious tone. "I know what the high council have said, but..." he said, instantly regretting his words, realising Narvin had not turned up for their last meeting.

"What have they said?" Narvin's head's shot up now having his full attention. Braxiatel looked at him "They feel that Romana left of her own accord, that there was no abduction and she is not important enough to use their resources to bring her home." Even Braxiatel's evidence had not swayed the stiff necked Time Lords and Braxiatel insisting they bring her home did nothing but create quite a few Enemies within the high council.

Narvin sighed at this revelation. "I could have done more," he muttered to himself. Braxiatel had expected some kind of response but there was nothing; Narvin just turned around and walked away. He got the feeling Narvin was not dealing with Emmaline's death any more than Romana's abduction; he had looked weary and tired like he had not been sleeping.

For the first few weeks after Romana had gone the Time lords had seemed to care about their president's disappearance but weeks turned into months and gradually she was considered no longer important. Narvin wanted to crush them under his feet. How dare they after everything Romana had done for their miserable little planet? Narvin knew it should be him out there looking for her; he should tear apart the universe and bring her home because quite frankly nobody else was going to do it. This was just like the time Romana had spent twenty years as a Dalek slave - the Time Lords couldn't or would not get involved. He had heard the stories of that long before he was even CIA.

Braxiatel's words echoed in his mind snapping him back to reality. Narvin should have known better than to expect anything, but even so he expected them to at least be loyal to Romana; for Rassilion's sake she was their President!

He stormed straight into the room where the High council members were. Narvin stood there grim faced. "What about Romana?" he asked.

"Romana is no longer important," answered a senior member of the high council. Narvin had felt sick to his stomach at those words, Romana was out there somewhere alone, scared and with no protection and he feared for her and for her unborn child - quite possibly his child. Even his little rant of threatening to leave Gallifrey and have nothing to do with Time Lord society again did nothing to change the high council, although he could see clearly it made them uncomfortable; knowing full well that without the CIA, Gallifrey would cease to be what it was. Gallifrey was all ready falling apart without Romana or any other firm leader, and Narvin knew without a doubt this was when the real fighting would begin for Gallifrey and for power.

The familiar sound of the TARDIS was heard in the distance as the Doctor stepped out, alone this time. He headed for the President's office.

He had received a summon months ago but he had simply ignored it; Romana did not need him, she had chosen Braxiatel over him as far as he knew. Usually he would have dropped everything for Romana but now back on Gallifrey he felt uneasy as he walked into the President's office but Romana was not there only Braxiatel.

Braxiatel looked up. "Doctor," he said looking at his brother.

"Where's Romana?"

"Romanadvoratrelundar has been missing from Gallifrey for several weeks. I will be standing in temporary and trying to prevent her been deposed."

"Romana ?"said the Doctor shocked.

As Braxiatel continued to talk it was clear the Doctor was now no longer listening all he cared about now was making sure Romana - his Romana - was safe. He had been such a fool for not coming when she had needed him. He loved her; he was still crazy in love with her, and he knew he always would be. He would find her, he would bring her home or whatever she wanted. Maybe she would to want stay with him...Yes he would get his Romana, he decided, as he headed back to his TARDIS, completely forgetting that Brax was talking.

Braxiatel sighed. He should have known that when it came to Romana, the Doctor would not listen to him, and he would most definitely would not accept an engagement between her and the Co-ordinator, no matter how much they loved each other. He did not blame the Doctor; Braxiatel was still very fond of Romana himself but that's as far as it went. Besides the Doctor was always leaving Romana behind; it had been no wonder he had lost her so many times. Romana belonged on Gallifrey and she had always turned the Doctor down when he had asked her to come with him... but maybe some time away would of helped her on this occasion.

Braxiatel made his way towards his own TARDIS, setting his coordinates for Maximediras and abandoning his post on Gallifrey once more. It was a perfect time to check on his collection and meet his other selves.

As he walked into his office, he gasped. It could not be, it was impossible...

But there she stood with a faint frown, biting her lower lip in the way that he had grown to love.

''Brax!" she gasped, before she collapsed to the floor.
