"Emmaline..." Braxiatel breathed as he knelt down beside her limp form. She was laying there, clearly injured; she had some burns to her arms and cuts and scratches over her face. They would heal in time but she was shivering and shaking gasping for breath. It was scary, but she was so very much alive.

"Emmaline, what is it? tell me!" he pleaded with her to stay with him. He touched her face; she was burning up one minute, and the next trembling like she was frozen.

"Emmaline, how bad do you feel?" he pressed her for a response.

"Bad," she managed to whisper, her voice hoarse.

"You need to regenerate," he said stroking her hair.

"Can't..." she said.

Braxiatel froze mid-stroke. "Emmaline, why not?"

She took in a deep, shaky breath and then winced. "Body damaged too much, won't survive - aahhhh!" she started screaming through the pain. Suddenly people had started gathering around her, having heard the screams.

Braxiatel lifted her into his arms and carried her towards the medical room. By then she had gone limp in his arms.

Nobody had ever seen Braxiatel more afraid than he was right now. As he started barking orders about needing medicine and a drip refusing to let Emmaline die, the medical staff followed his orders immediately, even though by then they were not sure if there was anything more they could do.

She was laying in the bed, still very much unconscious he gently kissed her cheek. Oh, he had missed Emmaline so very much, and for her to be here right now - well it changed everything. He wanted to keep her with him to take care of her, but he couldn't force her to stay with him...he had to let her choose.

Suddenly her eyes flickered open. "Brax," she replied weakly as he helped her sit up.

"Do you remember what happened?" he asked softly.

"I was falling, crashing through the time fissure. I don't remember after that...how I got here...?"

"I thought you were dead!" he spat suddenly, as unchecked anger crept into his voice. He could keep his emotions in no longer. "Everyone thinks you are dead! Romana fell apart, even Narvin. Why did you have to try and be a-"

But before he could continue the tears fell down her face and she was quietly sobbing. It broke his hearts that he had made her cry. He wrapped his arms around her as she cried into his chest, her arms clung around his neck, as if she was afraid he would just disappear. "Brax," she managed to say through her tears.

"I'm here... it's all right shhh... don't cry Emmaline, I will make everything okay. I promise." he crooned softly to her.

He held her until she calmed down and she had relaxed in his arms finally looking up at him. He wiped her tears away. He finally realised she had fallen asleep against his chest. He just sat on the bed holding her, as she slept he gently stroked her hair, not wanting to wake her.

Braxiatel still had very deep feelings for Emmaline, feelings he did not want to admit to her or even to himself her reappearance from the dead changed everything and he knew it.

Emmaline stirred in his arms as he pondered all of this. "Brax?"

He smiled down at her. "Emmaline," he said. "How are you feeling?"

Emmaline ignored the question. "Brax, why you here and not Gallifrey?"

Braxiatel raised an eyebrow enigmatically. "Well, I have my own adventures," he said.

Emmaline sighed tiredly. "Is that all I am getting?" she said, slightly huffily. "Fine. I guess you want me to return to Gallifrey?"

Brax stiffened almost imperceptibly."What if I wanted you to stay with me?"

"Stay with you?" she asked, her face giving nothing away. "Brax, do you still have feelings for me?" she asked curiously, trying to twist round and face him, but her back was still sore.

"The last time –" he started to say.

Emmaline blushed. "I guess I am just a stupid kid to you. I will go home," she pushed weakly away from Brax and shakily got up from the bed, reaching out to the wall to steady herself. With one final look she started to slowly walk towards the door, but Brax put both hands on her shoulders, effectively preventing her departure.

"I would go along with whatever you wanted." he said to her earnestly.

She glared at him, trying not to wince at the way her head was pounding. "That isn't an answer! Now please, let me go!" and with that she turned and carefully walked away.

Once, she thought she had got close to Brax, got through the barriers he had put around him to stop anyone getting remotely close to him, but it seemed that nothing changed or maybe he felt nothing for her.

Suddenly she sighed and leaned against a corridor wall in tiredness. How was she going to get back to her planet? She had no way of getting home, not without a TARDIS or a whole lot of luck.

She sat down on the ground and started to think of a way out, when she heard Brax's voice. "My name is Irving Braxiatel, and I am the new owner of Maximediras."

Why would Brax want this planet? thought Emmaline to herself. She listened as she felt complete disgust at Braxiatel and finally heading back to his office and waited for him.

"Well, I think that went really well," she heard Brax say as he walked into the office. Leaning against the window she stared at the people outside who were fighting and shouting.

"How could you? have you seen what's going on out there?" Emmaline cried, and Brax jumped slightly at her sudden appearance.

"Forget what's going on out there, they not important." he waved a hand dismissively.

"Not important?" Emmaline cried as tears streamed down her face. "What gives you the right to-" suddenly she swayed on her feet as the room spun around her as she fell before Brax caught her as she went limp in his arms.

"Joseph! Get me a Doctor here immediately!" Braxiatel shouted in alarm as he placed Emmaline softly on the sofa.

Within moments a doctor had arrived .

"Well, whatever happened prior to her arriving, has seriously deteriorated her body, she just needs take it easy no extra strain or stress."

"What about regeneration?" Braxiatel asked desperately. The medic shook his head.

"Out of the question. There's a chance a slim chance she could regenerate in the future, but it would either weaken her further, kill her, or it would be a difficult regeneration."

Braxiatel sat on the floor beside the sofa and gently stroked her hair. "Oh Emmaline," he whispered. "I'm sorry," he knew she needed a lot of rest so he left her to rest. He leaned over kissing her forehead.

The girl stumbled through the capital of Gallifrey as each step become more and more incredibly painful. Oh, she couldn't die in the city or regenerate she was already in her 6th regeneration The blood continued to seep through her head and run down her face within moments she felt herself fall crashing to the ground her clothes ripped and bloodied she closed her eyes and subsumed to the darkness.

"And you said there is no record of her ever been on Gallifrey?" Narvin asked as he glanced at the girl on the bed.

"We are currently cross checking her bio data we should have an answer within three hours." his technician responded.

"Keep me informed," said Narvin and with one final look he headed for the CIA office where he walked in and slumped in the chair. It was still very hard for Narvin without Emmaline and Romana. He was overcome with grief that Romana after all the resources he had used with the CIA even going against the high council had brought no positive sightings of Romana it was like she had disappeared from the whole of time and space. He glanced around the room the whole decoration of the room had been Romana's idea; she had made the office seem a more comfortable and relaxing place, but it was no longer because Romana was not with him here. He knew he ought to be out there looking for her himself he was of no use sitting here it was just driving him mad.
