Narvin knew it would only be a matter of time before Romana was deposed of and the Presidency was up for grabs during her abduction Gallifrey had a number of useless stand in presidents each one Narvin had simply despised and wanted to crush under his feet because of their policy's and undoing all his president had done.

Braxiatel had spent some time standing in for Romana, but seemed he too was dealing with his own grief and problems and been acting President and chancellor was starting to effect him and he had started spending large amounts of time away from Gallifrey, leaving Gallifrey without a proper President or chancellor. It had been mere weeks since Narvin had seen Braxiatel, but even Narvin was planning on escaping from Gallifrey. He was the only one who cared now about Romana's disappearance and Narvin would do anything to find her.

The young field operative entered the office. "Co-ordinator," he said looking up at Narvin. Handing him the file. "I just received it from the Technicians,". Narvin grabbed the file and opened it.. "That's impossible," he exclaimed. "That child was Romana's the child she lost during the war." He turned to the young field operative. "Are you sure this is correct?"

"They insist its correct, no mistake has been made."

"Thank you," said Narvin as he stood up and headed for the medical station.

Emmaline started to stir. Braxiatel had stayed by her side since she had passed out hours ago. "Brax," she mumbled, "have to stop them," she managed to say.

"Tell me Emmaline, he said softly helping her to sit up.

She closed her eyes. "There was a war before... it wiped out my people. The dogma virus will weaken not only Gallifrey but the surrounded planets making them too weak for what is to come. In the future the Daleks will be the supreme race in the universe. They failed last time with Gallifrey, next time they will try again. And they will win. You can save them, it's just me that can't be saved, I am doomed."

Braxiatel looked at her sharply ignoring her words. "Why did you not tell me how sick you were?" he asked.

A tear fell down her face but all she could think of what she would leave behind her and nothing about herself or that terrible pain that raged in her body.

He pulled her close to him and wrapped his arms around her as she pressed her lips against his and kissed him, but he pulled away. "Are you sure this is what you want?"

"Why do you always ask me that? I want you Brax," she whispered. At that he kissed her deeply as he slowly planted a trail of kisses down her neck and over her face.

"I need you. I cant allow you to die" he whispered to her. "On Gallifrey there are all sorts of medical treatment that can help you. I cant let you stay here and die."

He kissed her again softly wrapping her in his arms. "Emmaline let me take you home," but she had already closed her eyes and was sleeping against his chest. He smiled sadly at her and sat and held her as lovingly and gently as he knew how.

When Emmaline finally woke up Braxiatel was laying beside her holding her "Brax," she mumbled into his chest. He smiled down on her kissing her forehead softly.

"How are you feeling?" he asked softly showing so much concern for her.

She attempted to sit up trying to ignore the pain that gnawed at her body. "I am fine," she said through the pain as she swung her legs over the bed and attempted to stand up.

"Emmaline," Braxiatel pleaded with her to slow down but then she had disappeared down the hall way.

As Emmaline walked down the hall way she could smell deceit in the air, not all of Braxiatel's staff could be trusted and she knew it. She had heard mutters about her been Braxiatel latest thing, or some that refereed to her as his new toy in the few days she had been here, the words had hurt her. She of course knew Braxiatel could not be trusted either but she loved him, but he confused her. One moment he was pushing her away, the next he was showing so much concern for her welfare.

She walked through the long corridors walking over the brilliantly polished marble floor, her shoes squeaking on its gleaming surface. She leaned against the purple walls of the corridor it reminded her of the academy so bright and welcoming, but there were paintings on these walls, the Braxiatel collection. She ran her fingers over the paintings. Theywas such beauty and elegance in the paintings. She had always loved paintings as a young child, she like Romana had heard once about the Braxiatel collection, but she had never seen it before, this was the first time. She knew how worthwhile it was saving art from destruction that in the future it would be the envy of the universe.

it was still so painful to walk these days. She pressed her hands against the walls attempting to steady herself, but the tears started to fall down her face, as she gritted her teeth in pain as she screamed out in pain.

Her cry of pain brought Braxiatel running. "Emmaline," he said softly. "How bad is it?"

"I am fine, it is not too bad."

Braxiatel raised an eye brow. "Emmaline," he said taking hold of her arms gentle, as she attempted to support herself, but she stumbled falling, as Braxiatel caught her allowing him to support her.

"Weak, you are just so weak," said the voice inside her head. Braxiatel does not need you, he has new friends here, all you do is slow him down. "Slow him down," whispered Emmaline as she cried out as a sudden wave of pain hit her already weakened body.

"I have got you," he said softly as she started to cry wrapping her arms around him. "Brax," she managed to say through her tears. "I'm sorry I'm so weak."

"Emmaline never think that, ever you mustn't think that." He kissed her all over her face kissing her tears away, before he lifted her into his arms. "I'm sorry," she mumbled.

"Shh, its all right. I need to take care of you." He carried her through to the medical room before placing her softly on the bed.

"How bad is bad?"

"its not as bad as that day."

"Emmaline please, I care so much for you I-" Braxiatel stopped mid sentense not being able to say the words of how he really felt for Emmaline. He knew it was plain wrong to have those kind of feelings, and had he not already caused Emmaline pain in what he had done to her on Gallifrey? No, this was much better not said.

"Brax?" Emmaline asked.

"Nothing."

"Tell me," she said softly clinging to his arms desperate for Braxiatel to tell her how he felt for her.

"There is technology at home that could make you well again."

"And if they can not help?"

"Then I will find a world that can I will not watch you be in this much pain I can not," he managed to say before she realised he was crying something she had never seen in him before and it broke her hearts.

Romana rubbed her head as she struggled to get to her feet she could not remember how she came to this desert place, or who she was. Suddenly a whirling sound distracted her and there stood a old battered police box and out stepped a man wearing a trench coat. "Romana," he said as she glanced at him, as her legs gave way landing on the ground there she sat dazed and very confused.

He offered her a hand which she gingerly took. "Who are you?" she asked before she felt herself fall before the Doctor caught her as she lost consciousness, he carried her into her room and placed her softly on the bed.

Romana lay there she looked terrible she looked so pale her robes were ripped and dirty, but that was not the worse, the worse were the cuts and scratches on her arms and the bruises on her face. What had Bainbridge done to her? The Doctor was suddenly furious at how anyone could hurt Romana his beautiful Romana.

Romana's eyes flicked open. "Who are you?" she whispered.

"Romana its me?" the Doctor.

"The Doctor," she whispered she looked dazed and confused. "Do I need a Doctor?" she asked. He simply smiled at her.

"Do you remember your name?" the Doctor asked softly.

"My name?" she tried to focus "I-"but didn't continue.

He gentle touched her face but she flinched as if she was afraid. It broke both his hearts.

"I don't know you" she whispered.

"I need to treat your injuries," he said.

Romana nodded as he began to clean her up and found some clean clothing for her. She stared blankly at him like he was a stranger. Didn't Romana remember him at all? Did she even remember what they had meant to each other before Gallifrey had tainted their relationship, he thought silently to himself.

A sound of a TARDIS materialising on Gallifrey was heard and out stepped Braxiatel carrying a unconscious Emmaline in his arms. He regretted waiting so long, he should never of allowed her to stay when it was clear of the damage she had suffered during the time fissure. He carried her towards the medical station hoping she could still be saved.

"Is she?" gasped one of the medics seeing the young Time Lady in Braxiatel's arms.

"Yes, its Emmaline, she caused lot of damage after falling through the time fissure. Can you help her?" Braxiatel asked desperately, placing her softly on the bed

Suddenly he noticed the other girl on the other bed."Who is she?" asked Braxiatel as he gazed at the other girl.

"Well that's just the thing, she should not be here, she shouldn't exist - not in this time line anyway," replied the Time Lord who had been examining her. "The bio data is a complete match she's a Time Lady...but she is the child that was supposed to have died. You remember..."

"Romana and the Doctor's child." Braxiatel said almost incredulously. The Time Lord with him nodded.

"Precisely. Now this could be very embarrassing for Gallifrey, as Romana is now gone and you are the stand in President. It is you that must make this embarrassing situation go away."

Braxiatel wasn't really listening, instead he was gazing at the girl. "She's my niece then," he murmured. Then he registered what he had just been told. "I will do no such thing!" he said sharply. "I intend to find out how this was allowed to happen."

"Of course this means... Emmaline is an illegitimate child," the Time Lord continued.

"She is Narvin's daughter." Braxiatel stated.

"A half Time Lord?" the Time Lord spat incredulously. At that, Braxiatel grabbed hold of his neck slamming him into the wall.

"You ever speak about Emmaline that way and I swear to Rassilon, I will kill you in such a way that regeneration is not an option." The Time Lord's face paled. "She's not up for discussion and neither is that girl in that bed. Do I make myself clear?" He let go of him.

"My president," spat the Time Lord in a mocking tone, but he understood nevertheless.

Narvin had been on the way to the medical station when news had reached him that Emmaline was laying unconscious in the medical station. Narvin rushed through the doors and there his daughter lay. "Emmaline," he whispered. She looked so pale she looked like a corpse.

"What happened?"

"Braxiatel brought her in. She was unconscious when he brought her in. He said it was caused by the time fissure," said the young medic.

"Well, is there anything that can be done?" He had never seen Emmaline laying so lifeless, and he promised he would take care of her if she survived.

"How is she?" asked Narvin

"As well as expected given what happened, she should be fine with a lot of care and rest. Her body wont be as strong as it once was so its important not to overdo it, and she will be able to regenerate in the future, although it may be a difficult regeneration. She's young so she will pull through."

"Thank Rassilion," said Narvin relieved.

Braxiatel sat in the president's office he knew Emmaline would be okay and he knew bringing her home was the right thing to do, so had erasing her memories of him. He was doing it for her, she didn't belong with him. She deserved so much more than him. He would only end up hurting her in the end and he knew it. He was not proud of any of his actions towards Emmaline, but he was doing it for the good of Gallifrey at least that's what he told himself. it had hurt him to do it Emmaline had meant everything to him, but he had to sacrifice his happiness for the good of Gallifrey.
