THE GALLIFREY CHRONICLES, THE FALL OF GALLIFREY

Romana woke up in the medical station her eyes opened to find Gander sat by her bedside

"How you feeling?" he said gently touching her face.

"Sore," she touched the white bandage on her head.

"You are going to be sore for a few days. You hit your head pretty hard," he said. He traced his fingers against her face. "I love you Romana." He came closer and held her close to him.

She felt the need to say it back but she could not say the words; something felt wrong. How could she forget someone like Gander who obviously loved her.? She tried to force a memory but all she saw was herself kissing him. Maybe she was going crazy after all. She rested her head against his shoulder feeling his strong arms wrap around her before her eyes shut and she fell asleep against him.

Gander watched Romana sleeping he gently kissed the top of her head. He felt riddled in guilt for lying to her and taking advantage but he couldn't stop it now and he desperately wanted her, which made him resolute in allowing him to have what he most desired and directed his next course of action, all the while telling himself he was doing it for Romana and once she realised he would not hurt her like every other Time Lord had she would realise they were right for each other.

"Brax," she mumbled his name in his sleep making the guilt increase. It was obviously now he had made a grave mistake; she was in love with Braxiatel, even if she did not quite remember.

As the sweat dripped down her face she continued to call out for him. "Don't leave me," she mumbled. "Braxiatel," she continued to cry his name over and over.

"Shhh," he soothed her; wiping her face. He gently wiped the tears from her face before she had settled back into sleep once more. "I am sorry Romana," he whispered kissing the top of her head.

A splintering wind ran across Emmaline cheeks drying the tears from her face. She had stayed out here all night after finding out what Narvin had done. He was her daddy how could he hurt her like that? How could he hurt Romana the woman who had brought her up since she was a baby? Her daddy was supposed to be brave, a hero- someone she wanted to be like when she grew up, but he was a coward and now she despised him.

She shuddered feeling someone watching her, she was so sure of it but turning around there was nobody there. She had no reason for this. Bainbridge was dead he could never hurt her again but she felt uneasy. Making her way towards the Palace she was going to have it out with Narvin.

Narvin was packing his things up when Emmaline had reached the office "How could you?" her words pierced the air.

Narvin spun round to face her. Her face was wet with tears and he reached out to touch her.

"Don't touch me," as she stepped away from him.

"You are clearly upset Emmaline, we need to talk about this."

I heard about you what you did to Romana and with Awen of all people you disguist me. Why would I want to talk about that?"

"Well then, you will know I never meant to hurt her and why we now have to leave."

"Leave why."

"You are my daughter, my responsibility- you are still a child."

Emmaline glared at him you are not my father. My father was brave, a hero you are neither I won't go and you can't make me. She knew she was acting like a spoilt child but she would not be pushed around by someone she no longer respected.

"You will do as you are told," Narvin said in a tone that showed he neither cared what she thought or wanted.

"I want to know who my mother is"

The blood drained from Narvin's face. He had always expected the question sooner or later but he would of preferred much later. "She's dead, you don't need to know about her."

"Either you tell me, or I will find out myself."

Narvin frowned. It was obviously Emmaline wanted to pick a fight with him today. "She was nobody special, and she was a rubbish mother. A bit of a wild child. She never wanted a baby."

"I don't believe you. I want to know about her."

"I have told you, she was nobody special. You want me to tell you she was wonderful when she clearly wasn't. She was mad, an attention seeker, everything had to always be about her and that's the kind of woman she was."

"I think you are lying."

"I really do not have time for this Emmaline. Now we are leaving at the end of the day so you better pack your stuff up."

"You can't make me leave my family my friends," and before he could answer she fled in tears. She ran as far as she could through the hallways before she ducked into the achieve office.

"She is my mother. I can find out who she is," muttered Emmaline. "He can't stop me!"

"Emmaline," said a voice She turned round to find Damon stood there. His hair had become much darker than it was the last time she had seen him. Now a chestnut brown. His face had matured too, from a shy, youthful grin to an expression of strength that showed even behind his smile.

His eyes looked up at her with concern,, and they were the same beautiful hazel colour that she had fallen in love with so long ago. The boy that she had said goodbye to months ago was no longer a boy but a man and she was no longer a little girl.

"What are you doing here?"

"Nothing," she replied defensive."

"Emmaline, we were always able to talk."

Emmaline twisted her wavy black hair around her delicate fingers which she would do when she was anxious. She felt Damon's hand slip into hers as he guided her to the sofa.

She sat in silence

"What's wrong," he asked

"Everything."

He gently wrapped a arm around her as her body wrecked into sobs. "Don't cry Emmaline," he stroked her soft hair brushing her hair from her eyes and they looked into each others eyes and he kissed her.

"Damon," Emmaline said softly.

"I want us to be together again. I miss you."

"But I hurt you, why would you want me?"

"Because I love you. I have always loved you."

"I love you too, but what hope do we have when my own parents-"

"We are not them."

"He cheated on Romana and now I don't know what to do. My family is falling apart and I have nothing."

"You still have Romana she loves you no matter what."

"She has been so sad since Brax left, the real one not the fake one."

"She has you."

"I want to find out who my real mother is. My Dad won't tell me. I know she is dead I just want to know her name."

"I don't know," Damon said uncertain whether it was for the best for her to find out.

"Please Damon."

"Allright I will help you." He knew he could never say no to her.

The door swung open once more expecting Emmaline again and Narvin head shot up his mouth opened and closed like a goldfish but no sound came out. It was her but it couldn't be she stood there as beautiful as she had always been her beautiful blonde hair fell in waves down her shoulders and her face covered in freckles. She always had the freckles in every regeneration.

"You are supposed be dead," he finally managed to say.

"Is that anyway to treat your wife?"

"Wife," he mumbled

"Don't tell me you have forgotten...I never forgot what you did to me. What you did to our child."

"You were out of control someone had to do something."

"Oh yes, good old Narvin, with his complete and utter loyalty.. Well I am not here for you I am here for my daughter."

Narvin grabbed her wrist tightly "You stay away from her."

"You might put on this mask to the whole of Gallifrey but none of them see deep down to the Monster you really are."

"You know what. I have had it up to here with your family! it never stops you are like worms. I finally get rid of one of you you and another rises up to take its place."

Erisa smiled "Oh poor little Narvin is everyone finding out who you really are."

"Go away Erisa, nobody wants you here I don't want you, The Doctor didn't want you, neither did Brax. Nobody wants you because nobody cares.

He turned away.

"Does Romana know you are married?"

The colour drained from Narvin's face once more.

"You leave Romana out of this."

"What's wrong Narvin you afraid she will discover the truth about who you really are?"
