"Her mother," asked Donna

Braxiatel looked away. "She's dead." His voice was masked full of grief and pain. He took his baby daughter into his arms, holding her against his chest.

"She is all I have left of her." He kissed the top of his daughters head. " She is far too young to be without her mother. She needs two parents. Perhaps the best I can give her is to let someone else raise her."

He remembered when this woman, this beautiful Time Lady had captured his hearts. Their relationship had been a long and complicated courtship. It should never have worked for so many reasons and yet it had. He was only a cardinal and she was so much more to Gallifrey. He had fantasised for years about her; ever since she had been one of his own students in the academy. He knew it was wrong to think of her in that way he never acted on it.

He remembered the exact time he had fallen in love with her. It was during the Civil War. She was so broken and weak as she lay in that medical station, and he realised then how much he loved her. She was older by then and she had become something to Gallifrey.

He could never be sure what he was drawn to, her, or her power. He had always found power tempting and at times, irresistible.

"Braxiatel," she whispered griping his hand tightly. "You shouldn't be here. if anyone finds out"

"I was discrete, my Lady." he whispered in a low voice so that they were not overheard.

"I heard you collapsed." He gently touched her face.

She scowled. "Just get me out of here."

He helped her sit, but it took most of her energy. She rested her head on his shoulder. When she had looked up at him again, their eyes met for a brief, intimate second before he leaned in, cupping her jaw and kissing her. It had not being long before he felt her kiss him back, her lips moving in time with his own.

"She has you," Donna said after much silence. Brax was pulled out of his thoughts of the past once again. "You are all she has. She's your daughter."

Brax ducked his head, trembling. "Every time I look at her I see her mother, she made me take our daughter so she would have a chance to mature…she was far too stubborn minded to come with us. She sacrificed herself for a planet that didn't care about her .

"You talk like you're not from Earth." Donna remarked.

"We are from Gallifrey."

Donna rubbed her forehead, feeling one of her headaches coming on. It had been happening for months; sometimes she felt she had forgotten something, something important, but she couldn't remember what or even how she has forgotten, if such was true. She simply could not remember why she was so unhappy, even marrying Shaun had not made her truly content. It was like living a lie.

"Something wrong?" Braxiatel asked, placing his daughter into the pram. The pram glittered in the sunlight; the Gallifrean symbols on the side of the pram spelt out her mother's name. It had been her pram so many centuries ago and now it was his daughter's, although it had once been his.

"It's nothing." Donna closed her eyes, rubbing her temples.

"Come, now, we're not keeping secrets, are we?" Brax prodded, placing the blankets around his daughter.

"Alright, I've been having the most terrible headaches for about a year now but nobody can work out why."

"Perhaps I can help, if you would follow me to my ship. He made a soft sweep with his hands and walked towards the ship, Donna followed.

Inside, the ship was huge and homey, with lilac walls and foreign looking works of art lining the walls. One picture included a beautiful photo of a young woman. She wore a beautiful lace white robe and head dress, smiling as she held a young baby in her arms. The woman seemed familiar, but Donna could not remember where or when she had seen this woman before.

The floor looked more like a nursery than anything, with stuffed toys and little musical instruments, along with an activity play mat and a small rocking horse in the corner.

Brax put the baby into the baby bouncer. She immediately looked up at him with her wide blue eyes and started to whimper. He quietly shushed her as he gently stroked her soft cheek.

"Please don't cry, I really don't know what you want." He said in a more gentle tone than he usually took with her. She was so little, only three months old , she was only mere weeks old when he took her from her mother and in all that time he felt less and less for the baby that was forced upon him in the worst of tragedies.

He could not look at this baby without seeing her mother. She had the same blue eyes and the same beautiful blonde hair, as if it had been kissed by the sun.

"Shh," he whispered. For a moment she stopped crying and grabbed his fingers with her small hands.

Her mother's words echoed in his head.

"You are strong Brax," and I will always love you for that."

He couldn't breathe without her, yet alone raise a child on his own. He felt crushingly alone without the other half of him; her beautiful laugh, her smile. He would do anything to have it again, but it was gone, all gone, and all he was left with was this child.

He turned away from the child and to Donna."I have a medical wing in this ship, if you would follow me."

Donna followed him in silence towards the room. Her head was throbbing even more, now. A few lingering memories bubbled at the surface of her brain and words she did not understand formed before she felt herself falling through the darkness.
