The Doctor stood at the console, running his fingers through his hair. He was quiet and this bothered Donna.

"What are you thinking?" Donna asked breaking the silence

"Who would snatch an innocent toddler? To make matters worse, Aleena is no ordinary child. She's a Gallifrean miracle, the last Gallifrean child alive. Who would even have the technology to take her and hide her away?" She was such a beautiful baby, capturing his own hearts with that beautiful smile, those adorable eyes and her laugh.

Suddenly, the TARDIS set off in flight, rattling and shaking from side to side. Sparks flew all around the console before the lights failed and the TARDIS started to crash.

"Hold on!" the Doctor shouted, grabbing the controls as fast as he could. Within moments he had landed the TARDIS.

"I should have known, it's always like this with you isn't it?" Donna grumbled.

The Doctor looked offended. "It wasn't me, it was the TARDIS!"

"That's right blame the equipment. I thought you could fly this thing." Donna laughed.

"I can!" the Doctor protested but Donna merely laughed. Within moments the two Time Lords headed outside to an empty, neglected and battered planet

"Now, why the TARDIS bring us here?" the Doctor scratched his head in thought. They stopped on the slope overlooking the planet. "Skaro," muttered the Doctor. From the distance Daleks moved up and down the ruined planet.

"Seems as if the Daleks are rebuilding…but why?" the Doctor asked himself. His face suddenly clouded over. "Romana was struck down by these monsters." he said quietly.

"I'm sorry," Donna whispered, resting her hand on his shoulder. She hadn't known Romana but felt his loss after all she had heard of the once great woman. The woman who had stolen his hearts and who later become President and who the Doctor had lost long before the war.

There was no sound on the planet, apart for the hollow echo of someone crying softly against an eerie breeze. Curious, the Doctor climbed over the rocks, helping Donna across them and towards a wooden hut. Without further hesitation, the Doctor pushed it open. The door swung ajar easily.

A young lady was chained to the wall roughly. She couldn't be much older than twenty, the Doctor mused. Her deep red hair covered her face and ran all the way down her shoulders.

Kneeling down, the Doctor brushed her hair from her face softly.

How had she got mixed up with the Daleks?

He pointed the sonic at the chains, which fell off immediately. The prisoner fell forward just as suddenly. The Doctor caught her and carried her to the TARDIS.

Much later, the young woman woke up, and she instantly began to question her surroundings, pushing herself into a sitting position. Her eyes were wide with fear.

"You going to be fine," the Doctor was scanning her, eyebrows furrowed in concentration. He sighed. "Do you know your name?" he asked.

She glared at him. "What kind of stupid question is that? Of course I know my name."

Only she didn't know her name, or where she was, or why the Daleks wanted to destroy her.

"Winifred—Megan—Taylor." It was the first name that came to mind.

"Unusual name," the Doctor muttered.

"Yeah well I am an unusual kind of girl, so can you just stop scanning me."

"Sorry," he said quickly before eyeing her with interest. "How did you get involved with the Daleks?"

"I," she tried to remember, but her mind had drawn a blank.

"Winifred, do you remember?"

She just sat there like a statue, like a monument frozen for eternity. The fear she felt was a being in itself. It wasn't just in her, it was all around her. She was afraid of those who seemed so powerful. She was afraid of this huge machine that seemed so huge inside. Even the sound of it made her head ache. She felt like the world was closing in on her.

"I was alone," she finally whispered.

"Go on," the Doctor encouraged eagerly.

"I was cold…it was so dark. I can't remember how long I was there. I don't know where I've been. You must help me," she pleaded. He knew then he couldn't turn her away. He was the Doctor, and the Doctor knew that memory loss was very serious.

"I'm the Doctor and this is Donna and we are in the TARDIS. You are safe here," he assured her. She nodded like a scared child. Perhaps that's all she was; just a kid.

"Try to remember how you got on Skaro," he said softly.

"I can't remember," a tear slipped down her cheek. "Why can't I remember?" She asked as she looked around the console. Before she could say anything else, she fell into unconsciousness.

"What's wrong with her?" Donna asked when she reappeared.

"Nothing a bit of sleep won't fix," the Doctor quickly lifted Winifred into his arms and took her to an empty room, placing her on the bed.

"Good night Winifred," he said softly before departing from the room.

"She's sleeping," the Doctor stood in the console room. "Question is, who is she, and why was she so important to the Daleks?"

"You think she was lying about her name?" Donna asked.

"Yes," the Doctor said gravely. "She's running from something, I don't think she quite knows herself. All we can really do is help her to remember. More importantly, we need to find Aleena. Brax needs her. I don't think he can function without her."

It was many hours before Winifred woke up. She wandered down the hallway, looking at all unique doors to different rooms. She walked past a room with a gold-plated door, and she couldn't help but trace her fingers against it. It almost felt like she was doing something wrong by going in the room, but she ignored her conscious and stepped into it.

It was a beautiful, stunning room. Delicate pink and yellow colours greeted her as she stepped into the room. The soft pink carpet was soft under her bare feet. As she ventured further in, she noticed a picture of a beautiful woman and a noble handsome man who both looked very much in love.

She turned around to head back when she noticed the Doctor, who had a solemn expression on his face.

"whose room is this?" Winifred asked quietly. She could tell he seemed hesitant about the subject. The hurt was in his eyes.

"You shouldn't be here," he hissed obviously angry. "This used to be my friend's room," he said more softly this time, stuffing his hands into his pockets and sighing. "She's gone now."

"I'm sorry," Winifred whispered.

"Yeah, well," the Doctor shrugged. "What I could have done to save her when she was alive, I'm doing now." He looked at Winifred gravely.

"It's my duty to Romana."

The anger and despair returned once more.

."You don't ever come in here again," he said gravely with a simple dismissive wave of the hand and waited for her to leave.

After a few moments she slowly walked out.
