THE LAST TIME LORDS OF GALLIFREY

It had happened so fast. The gun shot, Benny's panicked screams, and then she was dead—at least in this reality. History had changed again.

Not that it mattered.

"I know the future and the past," Brax said quietly to himself. Time can be altered, he thought.

Benny was running, not just for her, but for her baby. Where was Irving when you needed him and why didn't he use his time equipment? Or maybe he was in a different reality.

Stumbling into a room, she found the Doctor, Aleena and Donna.

And the Daleks. Benny's eyes slowly swept around the room, taking in every last detail, as her life flashed before her eyes. The situation was hopeless. Brax wasn't here, perhaps he was already dead or maybe he was still alive. Nobody seemed to have any kind of plan, as she tried to make eye contact with the other Time Lords.

"Do not move; do not move you are our prisoners."

"I am terribly sorry, but I moved. She said as she tried to edge closer to a door she noticed"

"You are related to the Time Lord Irving Braxiatel, you will explain your involvement." The Daleks ordered Benny as they started to move towards her.

"We get around." The Doctor stepped in for Bernice. "We're quite a large family."

"Explain, explain, explain!"

"Oh all right! Fiancée? Partner? Lover? Boyfriend?" They all felt wrong trying to explain their relationship with Brax.

"You are a Time Lord."

"Give the Daleks a milky way," she replied sarcastically

"Are you pregnant?" The Doctor suddenly turned to Bernice, his eyes widened. And since when were you a Time Lord?" he asked

"No," Benny muttered. "I ate a whale."

"Oh, Bernice, tell me it's not Brax's child."

"Would you like me to lie?"

"Social interaction will cease. You will move." The Daleks ordered as they lead them through the collection to a basement, locking them in and shutting the door.

The Doctor turned around to question Benny further, but she was nowhere to be seen. How had she slipped away from the Daleks presence? He hoped she was safe. He wasn't happy that she got involved with Brax but he was more concerned about this thing inside his head and about Romana. He tried the door but it was locked.

"Oh give it here," Aleena snapped, pushing past the Doctor and Donna. Taking a clip from her hair, she picked the lock and instantly the door opened. The corridors were deserted and silent and no sign of the Daleks.

"I'd like to see you come up with something like that," Donna mumbled softly.

The Doctor spun round." I can't think of everything!" He exclaimed.

"Where is Braxiatel?" Donna retorted.

"Oh don't worry about my father! He always has an escape plan," Aleena had never come across the Daleks, but she knew they had destroyed her home when she was just a baby.

Privately, the Doctor was impressed at his niece's bravery. She had so much of her father in her. He wasn't sure if that was a good or a bad thing, but she had a lot of Romana in her too, which hopefully balanced out all the bad.

Brax sat in his office. There was no use pretending everything was fine but regardless of everything that was going on, he had to survive- him, Bernice, the collection. He knew he had to find Benny and stop Romana, but he needed a plan. He sighed, flipping open Benny's diary that lay on his desk. Not that he expected the answer to be in there.

Do you understand love?

I don't know, you see. I don't know whether you do or not. You love me, I think. In some way, you do. You wouldn't have done all this if you didn't care for me and for Peter and all of us somehow, but it hasn't really turned out the way you expected, has it? Not any of it.

You told Jason you were sorry, and I believe you. You didn't mean things to happen the way they did, and that's okay. That's human. I can understand that. Because in some stupid, alien way, you love us.

When you left the collection, do you know how hard it was for us… for me, losing my best friend? Even when you were gone I still felt you were here.

You know what?

Merging your timeship with the collection. What were you thinking, Brax? What was the sodding idea? Worse than that, merging your timeship with the collection and then running away and not telling anyone you'd done it.

But now I think I understand, you did it to protect us. You always want to protect us.

Brax shut the diary, just as someone knocked on the door. He walked over, opening it up for the visitor.

Romana stood at the door, looking at him, almost like a robot. Her eyes gave nothing away she was emotionless, but he had to be sure, to know exactly what he was dealing with.

"Are you in control of yourself?" He asked sternly

"Irving help me," she gasped before she fell against him. He held her against his chest.

"Romana," he started softly, but she had already blacked out. He kissed the top of her head. He already knew her reappearance in his life changed everything. He had Benny now and a child on the way, but Romana and Aleena were his family also. But he would do what he could for Romana.

By the time Romana was placed on the sofa, she had regained consciousness.

"What do you remember before the Doctor found you, what's the last thing you recall?" Brax asked softly.

"You," she said. "I was dying, I had been shot and we kissed. I made you promise to look after our daughter. The Daleks brought me back, they needed me for something. What did they do?"

Braxiatel frowned for a moment. He knew he wasn't there but he could guess who was. He quickly pushed the thoughts away. His main concern for now had to be Romana.

"Listen, whatever they did I will undo it. I'm going to fix it but you need to trust me."

"I don't know," she said. "Every time I do you betray me in some way. Why do you do that? If you cared so much about me how you could do that to me?" Looking at him she noticed the love bite marks on his neck wrongly assuming they were from Pandora.

"You and Pandora?"

"There is no me and Pandora."

"But the love bites."

"I may have met someone," he said looking away.

Romana's hearts sank slightly for a moment but what had she expected that he would remain single or now she was back they would live happily ever after No, Romana didn't believe in happy endings.

"Do you love her?"

Braxiatel shifted uncomfortable he raised an eyebrow "Love?" he asked.

Romana smiled slightly.

"Does she make you happy?"

"Why, yes, very much so." he said not meeting her eyes.

"Good." Romana frowned, there was something he wasn't telling her, knowing Braxiatel it could be anything.

Finally he glanced at her, the guilt written on his face.

"Braxiatel?" she gave him a concerned look.

"In the days after I left Gallifrey, I never saw the things I did. Terrible things. Unforgivable things, things I thought I could never be capable of."

"Oh Brax, what have you done?" Wrapping her arms tightly around him she pressed herself against his shoulder. She could hear him mumbling against her that he was sorry. Brax gently removed her jacket to find her arms covered in marks where he assumed they had experimented on her.

"Does it hurt?" He asked softly, trying to contain his anger at the Daleks or whoever was responsible.

She shook her head. "Not anymore, but my head …they are coming, you have to go and save your friends."

"No I won't leave you... not this time." He gently touched her head with his fingers, attempting to break the link between her and the Daleks as she fell unconsciously against him.

"Sleep now," he whispered. "Everything is going to be fine. He laid her down gently placing his coat over her."

Pandora was angry. She wasn't going to let Braxiatel walk away from her and play happy families with that Summerfield woman whilst she was denied what belonged to her…Romana.

And there Benny was, now, a hand placed protectively on her stomach. That stupid, stupid baby was inside Benny. That baby changed everything.

"Brax?" Benny called out sweetly walking through the lower collection. She stood at the top of the stairs as Pandora stepped forward trailing behind her.

And with one final fit of rage, she pushed Benny down the flight of stairs. Benny screamed as she tried to grip onto something, as her head hit the ground before her body landed with a thud.

Burgundy-blood seeped from her head and trailed down her face.
