Braxiatel stood, glancing at the tiny baby in the incubator ahead of him. The baby wasn't expected to survive the night, but she had.

Benny hadn't. She had lived long enough to hold her daughter once before her eyes shut and she was gone. Gone before her life could even begin. Her life with him. He never regretted bringing her to the collection, she was different, special. Far too special for the likes of his brother, or even the late Mr. Kane.

The war was no more. It had sizzled out, but Benny never lived to see it end, her body had given up. She wasn't strong enough to regenerate. Pandora had gone for good, Isolated by the K9 device. They were free of her influence.

Lara they had agreed that they would call her Lara. She was getting stronger every minute.;. He should never have doubted it. She was his daughter, a survivor, his and Benny's daughter —of course she'd be a fighter. She was so perfect, just like Aleena, her tiny fingers gripped around his. She would grow up not knowing her mother, just like Aleena. How could life be so unfair to him?

Nobody had entered the room to see Brax, not that it mattered to him. What could any of them really say, what comfort could they bring? It was all too hard when a human died, however Time Lords cheated death with every regeneration. it was true to say they weren't used to seeing it. But Benny was one of them, although she wasn't supposed to be. That's what made her amazing to begin with; she hadn't needed to be one of them and now he would pay for that decision every day as he lived alone without her.

Benny was laid here to rest in one of the gardens; where on every side were walled courtyards and melodious fountains, secluded bowers and tree-lined walkways and there, in an ornamental pond. Right there among the lake island in an ornamental lake known as The Oval. It was there, her final resting place.

Braxiatel paused by a gentle incline on which the rose -bushes around the lake grew. They were, of course, her favourite flowers. Braxiatel gazed at it for a while.

"I brought you here I was supposed to take care of you," he murmured. "Now Lara will grow up without a mother. I'm sorry about that." His expression was hard to read to those watching him right now. He was calm, showing very little emotion but if you knew Braxiatel that was normal, so very normal for him.

He had been asked for the body by her friends and, her family, stating she wasn't part of the collection. But she was his -– even—even through death he wanted her here, he needed her. After all, this was where Bernice had felt most safe and happy. Her own family and friends had turned their backs on her when she needed them the most..

Of course, Benny's family had no idea about Lara and that's the way Benny and Brax had wanted it. Safe, protected from anything and anyone . That's what the collection would be; a safe haven for his daughter.

In the end, Benny was much a part of Irving Braxiatel's Collection as the sculptures and, paintings, the books and, musical instruments, the stuffed specimens and the curios of technology.

It felt like history repeating it's self.

He was aware of someone's hand on his shoulder.

Romana.

"Brax," she hesitated. "We were wondering …." Her her voice trailed off. She had only met Benny briefly, long enough to know she had loved Braxiatel. She felt the same way once, but if she were honest she still did.

"It's hardly the time, don't you think?" He muttered, turning around slowly.

"You are right, Irving, it's not. But we were wondering, what we should do now?"

"I don't know!" he shouted. He was silent for a moment, and when he next spoke, his voice was softer. "I brought her here, she was meant to be safe."

"It wasn't your fault; you can't blame yourself."

Brax laughed. "Of course it was." He sighed. "I thought one day I'd tell her about Matthias."

Romana looked at him. What has Matthias got to do with Bernice? She had an uneasy feeling. Matthias—with Brax's help —had betrayed her during the civil war. Braxiatel could have named her as his successor, making her president again, but he had nominated Matthias instead.

Braxiatel shrugged "I don't suppose it matters anymore, he was our child and I made her think he was dead." Romana gasped as she tried to process this new information.

"Benny was so very young." " Braxiatel continued." "I was selfish. I'm not proud of my actions. I was greedy back then. I had to have everything. She was just a kid herself; she was so young. 'Young' by Time Lord Standards standards, anyway. The child would have changed who she would become; she wouldn't have done all these great things if she had been tied down with a baby. So, I made a decision. After Benny gave birth she had been out of it for days. I did what I felt was best for her. I told her the baby was dead. Benny was devastated, of course, and she wanted to see the baby. so I made her forget erased her memories of the baby… and of me. However, I knew that we would meet again." She would never remember meeting me at a young age.

He remembered the day as if it was yesterday he had funded a dig. Shewas one of the young archaeologists: young, ambitious, and smart it had seemed. He should have known better he was far too old for her.

"So, Miss Summerfield," he strode up to her as she was admiring the view. She shook her head.

"Bernice, please," she said. "Or call me Benny."

He took her hand. " "Benny, then," he said softly taking her hand, kissing it ever so gently. "Irving Braxiatel?" he said introducing himself.

Benny smiled shyly. "Yes, I know who you are."

Of course she would of done her research, he mused quietly to himself. "Allow me to show you around the collection." he He held out his arm for her, which she took. He guided her around his treasures, his art, and the gardens before he had invited her for drinks in the Summer house.

"Your place is so beautiful." She glanced at him through sips of wine.

"It's only just starting to become what I always wanted," he admitted. He had found his hand gently slipping into hers and looking into her eyes.

Things had happened quickly after that. One moment he was kissing her and then he felt her kissing him back, feeling her arms hook around his waist, pulling him closer to her and it had felt so right, but then she had pulled away, frowning. as if this wasn't what she wanted.

"What is it?" he asked softly, he brushed the hair out of her eyes realising how very beautiful she was.

"I've never," she whispered feeling foolish

"Trust me," realising how inexperienced she was. He gently traced his fingers against her lips. "We don't have to do anything you don't want to."

"I want to." She nodded firmly, kissing him once more. Their kisses became almost desperate in their intensity and he felt as though he were in a dream, and at any moment would awake into the coldness of reality.

He had never allowed himself to bond with a human in such a way before, but she was different he felt drawn to her. It had been over quite quickly, and then - he had held her for the rest of the evening.

Romana wasn't sure what to say. What could she say? She was shocked by the confession but what did it matter? Matthias was dead and so was Benny.

Brax turned to leave and Romana didn't stop him.

Braxiatel left the collection, needing to be alone with his thoughts. The collection would be fine but he had responsibilities now, he had Aleena and Lara to consider now, he couldn't afford anymore bad decisions.

Brax wasn't looking when he crashed into a young girl knocking her over.

"Watch where you are going," she glared at him. Her soft, black hair hung loosely over her shoulders. There was something uniquely familiar about her.

"I'm sorry," he said, helping her up. As she brushed herself off.

"Benny!," shouted a voice in the distance. Instantly it grabbed his attention as the girl glanced back.

"Bernice Summerfield."Brax whispered in shock.

Benny glanced at him. "I'm sorry, but have we met?"

"Ah.," Braxiatel realised this was before they had met. "Irving Braxiatel," he said holding out a hand. "Yes, we have met… but perhaps not yet."

"Bernice Summerfield. My friends call me Benny, but as you already know me you probably already know that."

"Indeed," he said with a slight nod.

"So are we friends?" Benny asked with a cheeky smile on her face.

"Yes," he said smiling warmly at her. "We are friends. I came to your wedding."

"Oh, really?" she laughed.

He knew he would have to watch her walk away; otherwise he would end up changing her past and to which he had no right.; He knew it would be a long time before he would see her again.

"Well, as we definitely going to be friends, you can call me Benny." She placed a chaste kiss on his lips before walking off into the distance.

"Until then," Brax muttered softly, watching her leave. He stuffed his slender hands into the pockets of his trousers and sighed.

"Dad?" Aleena had appeared. "Who was that?" Brax hesitated, he did not want to lie to her anymore, but he didn't feel as if he should explain just yet.

"A friend." He smiled at her. "A dear friend."
