THE TIME LORD VICTORIOUS
Author note This is one I already had on the site, but decided to change a few things I might leave it as a one shot or even have it as a two shot. 10th Doctor with slight mentions of Romana
Beta read by Lady Catkin. Please review
Disclaimer I don't own Doctor who If I did I would bring Romana back.
"The laws of time are mine and they will obey me" announced the Doctor with a deep dark look upon his face; there had been so much loss, so much pain, but not anymore.
He would break the laws of time and there would be nobody to stop him. Like he said to himself now - "who else is there?"
The Time Lords were all dead, Romana was gone, his one true love, his family, his friends, even Gallifrey was gone. That beautiful planet with its marmalade sky, and lush red grass and its twin sun's.
Now it was just dust and ash floating aimlessly through space, long before its time.
That had left him the last of his kind, the last of the Time Lords.
"All of my people have gone, that elegant city with its stunning glass facades that glittered in the wake of the twin sun's Those shimmering mountains" his voice trailed off as he could see in his mind's eye the place he had once called home.
"You think it will last for all eternity" he continued bitterly in his audible reverie "but nothing lasts forever. It's gone now; it's all just dust and ash now. Everyone I ever truly, honestly cared about. All gone".
He closed his eyes for a moment as if in honour of their memories.
But when he reopened his eyes, they were flickering with dangerous intensity.
"No. I'm the winner. I won because I'm the last of the Time Lords and there is nobody else." He growled, his face wracked with twisted, building anger.
He knew deep down there, somewhere, if Romana was still alive, she would have stopped him.
But she wasn't here.
"And there's no-one to stop you?" came the voice of reason some where off in the periphery of his perception.
"Not anymore, because everyone else has gone", a triumphant look appeared in his eyes "The Time Lord victorious."
"This isn't you" his companion pleaded.
Her eyes showed she truly must have never known him at all and in his final regeneration, he had become someone she struggled to know. What had happened to that wonderful man who saved planets, rescued civilizations, and did the impossible?
"No?" questioned the Doctor "then obviously you don't know me at all"
"This is wrong; you can't just play God like this!"
His companion was alarmed by the way the Doctor was acting, is this what it had taken, 900 years of time travel and the loss of countless people to change him into this dark, malevolent version of himself? Someone that she no longer recognized, he was no longer the Doctor.
He was a stranger.
"I'm tired of being the loser. Today I'm going to fly. Today I'm going to be the winner!" he cried in mad jubilation.
Those words showed he didn't care anymore; he was tired of being the loser, tired of being the one that fell, tired of being the one that lost everyone and everything dear to him. This time he was going to be the winner despite the cost.
"Why are you being like this?" his companion's voice was soft and gentle, pleading with him to stop and think.
So many times that had worked with previous companions and he had listened to them. Something was so different this time though and they both knew it.
"Who are you anyway?" she continued, worry now permanently etched across her pallid face.
"I'm the Doctor," he answered in an arrogant voice.
"I'm a Time Lord. I am the last"
He had always been the Doctor, but this time he wouldn't be weak and he wouldn't be a loser. He would be someone who would win; he would never lose anyone again or face any more pain.
"But who are you?" she repeated "Who are you really Doctor?"
"This is me" he snapped "this is all there is left, and all that matters is here and now. The Time Lord victorious..."
"The Time Lord victorious is wrong, nobody should ever have that much power, Doctor " she cried.
He shook his head; he had heard all this before.
"Tough" the Doctor said.
He had already gone too far and was now unreachable.
He would be the one to not just to shape the universe, but to change it. No more goodbyes. He could bring his people back, all those he lost. He could stop the War.
Gallifrey would still exist.
Starting with Romana he would rip apart that time lock and get her and to hell with the consequences!
He would laugh into the face of the 'Nightmare Child', Daleks, ha! He would crush them under foot. He would be able to see his brother Braxiatel again, the family reunion he always wanted. His mother still alive.
Oh but then there was Rassilion - the betrayer of the Time Lord race he would wipe him from history so he never existed and could never hurt his people, could never hurt Romana. She would never feel that rejection again or feel that betrayal from her own people.
He could undo the terrible, terrible pain that they all suffered -- he could undo his own.
"I'm coming Romana" he whispered.
