TWENTY MOMENTS WITH ROMANA

A/N Romana/Narvin and some slight mentions of Brax/Romana slight spoilers for Gallifrey series 4.

I don't normally do Narvin/Romana as I am more into Brax or the Doctor with Romana

Romana had lost so much. Gallifrey was gone in her mind; she was trapped within an alternative Gallifrey...one that felt dangerous and unsafe. Braxiatel was gone...she had seen his death or end whatever it was that happened, she'd watched him fall through the portal with that version of the Doctor. He wasn't even really the Doctor...he wasn't her Doctor. He had been more like an evil version of the Time Lord she had come to respect. Even Leela and K-9 were gone and now her Coordinator lay there dying. Narvin...she could barely grasp the concept of so much loss.

The first time Romana had come to realise she cared for Narvin, that hating him was no longer an option, that she may even love him. She had lost too much becoming someone she no longer recognised. The destroyer of worlds she was now known as, and this time she had chosen it.

She had allowed Braxiatel, Brax, her friend, her mentor to get her away from Gallifrey as the free time virus ravaged her planet...as they battled to find a cure, travelling from one Gallifrey to another. Each time the same mistakes played out time and time again in different ways. How had she become this ruthless? The destroyer of worlds, they had called her.

How could she ever have criticised the Doctor's methods when she had done the same? She had destroyed worlds too, not just once but multiple times, making the same mistakes over and over. How? Genocide on a global scale.

"Oh Brax," she whispered, "if only there was just a chance you survived...as slim a chance as there could possibly be." She had to believe he was still out there, maybe...just maybe she would find her way back to him. She would make him proud of her. She would live for him. It was what he would have wanted. Romana would live every moment of her life in his memory...his sacrifice would not be in vain.

She could still see it in her head. Braxiatel and that version of the Doctor in the alternative Gallifrey, tumbling through the vortex through time and space. It should have been her. He had planned to kill her first, then Brax. "It should have been me," Romana whispered. She never should have let Braxiatel play the hero to save her. A lump was felt in the back of her throat at the mere thought of never seeing Brax again. It was just unthinkable.

She crawled over to where Narvin lay.

"Narvin, talk to me," she griped his hand tightly, concern flooding her eyes. Her Co-ordinator lay there struggling for breath.

"I didn't know you cared," he gasped between breaths. Romana sensed that every breath was causing him pain.

"How bad is it?"

"It feels bad enough."

"Regeneration?" she asked.

"I can't."

"Why not?" Romana's breath caught at the thought that he could not regenerate. She had been sure that he had not reached the end of his life cycle.

"Long story, no regenerations left." He gasped in pain as his life was quickly draining away.

"Romana," he touched her face gently. "You will always be my President."

"Shh," she whispered, "don't try to talk..you're going to be fine.." She spoke softly to him. "We will get back to K-9. He's equipped with all kinds of medical treatment and he will make you well. If he cannot, I will find a world that can. She gently brushed her lips against Narvin's and he quickly returned the kiss.

"Narvin," she whispered, taking his hand. She could feel him fading away...his life force slowly leaving his body. It was over in a few moments. He was gone and she sank back against him. "No, you can't die," she whispered as she held his lifeless body in her arms.

In the end, Romana had lost everything. She'd lost the Doctor in her own universe. She'd lost Braxiatel, her friend and mentor who could've been so much more. Her friend Leela was now gone, as was her K9, given to her by the Doctor. And now Narvin...just when she had realised her feelings for him, he was taken from her. Maybe it was what she deserved after destroying an entire world.

Words echoed in her mind. "Is that what you are, Romana?A destroyer of worlds? Is that what you want to be remembered for?"

Her reply echoed in her mind. "If I must."

"They is no must about it, there is always a choice. Is that what you are, Romana? A destroyer of worlds?"

"Yes," her answer sounded like a gunshot in her memory.

"The Destroyer of worlds. And this time you chose it."
