THE LIGHT OF A SAGE

Note that most of these characters, places... etc. belong to JK Rowling and not me. Also, please note that a few changes have been made in this fanfic that oppose the plot of the prior books. This is purely to support my fanfic plot. For example, yes, Fred and George Weasley did leave Hogwarts before the Seventh book... and no I have not read the Seventh book of HP yet seeing that this was written only shortly after I read the sixth. So, bare with me here.

Reviews, comments, critizism, and verbal bashing all welcome. Also, any ideas are also greatly appriciated. The progress of these chapters may be a bit slow considering I'm moving in a few days and I'm also working on publishing my own manuscript at the moment... so again, hold tight and please don't yell at me when I get back on here. Thank you. :) Leo :)

Chapter 1:The Tranfers

The crisp morning air stung their nostrils as the students loaded themselves onto the train heading to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The sweet smells of candy covered trolleys and engine fumes muddled their minds and ensnared their senses until the train was in motion and the breezes from the windows brought them reassurance of a new year.

Harry, Ron and Hermione sat in their own compartment with the door half-shut, allowing anyone who may be searching for a spare seat. Excited for the new beginning of their seventh and final year at Hogwarts, the three friends awaited the moment until they would be arriving once again, and for the last time, at their secondary home.

Ron and Harry had been sharing memories of past years when the compartment door creaked open. They looked up to find a short girl with long red hair and stunning blue eyes standing in the doorway. Her freckled face formed a welcoming smile as she panted and dropped her suitcase unto the seat beside Hermione. "You don't mind if I join you?" the girl asked, hopefully.

Harry shook his head.

"Good, all else is full... and I'm not about to sit with Malfoy anytime soon." The girl took her seat beside Hermione and grinned, holding out her hand. "I'm Ashe Vinci."

Hermione smiled, "Hermione Granger," she said, taking Ashe's hand.

"Pleasure," Ashe said, "Granger, is it? Then you must be Ronald Weasley and Harry Potter?"

Harry and Ron exchanged a look.

"Oh, don't look so surprised," Ashe said, "With all the papers you three have been covering and all the rumours flying about this place, I'd be surprised if I were wrong. According to everyone else, I've heard you three are inseparable."

Hermione blushed, "That's a bit of an exaggeration."

"Yeah, I mean not everyone knows us," Ron nodded, filling his mouth with Every Flavoured Beans, "I bet once we've graduated from this place time will happen to us like it does to everyone."

Ashe grinned, but said nothing more on the topic.

"What about you, Ashe? I've never seen you around before," Hermione asked.

"Are you a first year?" asked Harry, glancing at her doubtfully.

Ashe shook her head, "I transferred. I was beging home schooled up to the last year so that I could graduate at a reputable school."

"Then why not start at the school in the beginning?" asked Hermione.

"Parents," Ashe waved the question aside, "they didn't believe in it."

"Weird," Ron commented.

At the opening year ceremony the sorting was held and the feast began as it always did, and even more vibrant than ever. It seemed that over the last two years of publicity of Hogwarts, the school had been finally attracting some attention and the amount of first years and transfer students to be sorted lasted twice as long as usual.

Ashe became a Gryffindor and joined Harry, Ron and Hermione at the table. "This is great! I'm starving." She said before sitting down.

The name 'Leas Almadzi' was called and Ashe turned swiftly in her seat to watch her be sorted. Harry, Ron and Hermione noticed the sudden change of mood and questioned it. "I hate that girl there," Ashe said, bluntly. The girl named Leas Almadzi was walking toward the sorting hat with swift grace. Her long black hair flowed behind her and her strange grey eyes scanned the great hall before they were covered with the hat.

"Is she also a transfer?" Ron asked.

Ashe nodded, "Yes, she was home schooled like I. We used to be friends but recently she's been acting hostile toward me."

"It could be the news of Voldemort. That has everyone on their heals," Harry said. To their surprise, Ashe did not flinch at the name.

"I doubt it. Her families known of Voldemort for some time now. They were the first to believe the newspaper two years ago when he had first risen," Ashe explained, "I think a few in her family used to be Death Eaters actually."

Harry rose his eyebrows to this news as Leas was sorted into Slytherin. "Hmph," Ashe snorted, "Figures."

Classes started in a flash this year. Harry, Ron and Hermione picked up their scheduals that morning from the great hall only to be slightly disappointed. "Most of our classes are with Slytherin?" Ron moaned, "What are they playing at?"

"Well, look on the bright side, we have potions before lunch," Harry said, sarcastically.

"How is that bright?" Ron muttered, darkly.

Harry shrugged, "I don't know..."

"Harry!" Fred and George came over and sat down next to them eagerly, "I've been getting questions from a bunch of newbies about the DA group. They want to know if it's going to be continued this year or not."

"Is there any point in continuing?" Harry asked Ron and Hermione.

"We could for fun," Ron shrugged.

"Sure," Harry agreed, "Everyone knows where the Room of Requirements is. We should get more members too! Post stuff for the DA. It's not a secret anymore."

"Awesome!" Fred and George said in union before running off again.

"Well, we best get to class. Don't want to be late on our first day!" Hermione said and skipped off to Transfiguration.

"She's way to cheery for school," Ron muttered.

"Ashe?" A voice came from across the hall at them Ashe looked up to see Leas coming over to their Gryffindor table. A dark expression crossed her features. "I saw you get sorted into Gryffindor. Congrats!" Leas said, cheerfully.

"Thanks," Ashe mumbled moodily, "Well, sorry. I'd love to stay and chat, but I have a class to attend."

Just as Ashe turned to walk away, Leas looked down at her own table of classes and said, "Transfiguration, right?"

Ashe stopped in her tracks and sighed, "Yes."

"Great! Maybe you could help me around this school! I don't know the place very well yet," Leas said.

"I have to visit the ladies room first. I'll meet you there instead," Ashe said and quickly left the great hall before Leas could speak again. Leas stood stunned into silence and plainly hurt looking after her old friend.

Ron raised an eyebrow at Harry. "Well, that was just plain rude of her!" Fred said as he and George looked after Ashe. Leas dropped her gaze and bit her lip.

"I'll just..." she began, but Fred stopped her and held out a hand. "Allow me to escort you to class, Miss?"

"Almadzi, Leas Almadzi," she smiled, but did not take his hand. "That's very kind of you."

"You have class with us, Leas?" Ron asked her, "Ignore Ashe. We'll take you. I think you have Potions with us after as well."

"Thanks," Leas grinned, "And you are?"

"Fred, George, Ginny, and Ron Weasley," Fred introduced.

"Siblings?" Leas smiled, "That's interesting."

"And this here is Harry Potter," Ron said. Harry looked up from his orange juice and waved.

"Harry Potter? Weasley? So, you all are apart of the Order?" Leas asked curiously.

They almost dropped their attention. "How'd you know about the Order? Fred asked, suspiciously, glancing at her Slytherin badge.

"My parents and uncle are apart of the Order, and they have been from some time now," Leas replied, proudly.

"Who are they?" George asked curiously.

"Robin and Judd Almadzi," Leas said.

"I don't know them," Fred and George shook their heads.

"You said your uncle was too. We might know him?" Ron said.

"I know that you would know him," Leas grinned, grey eyes flashing. Before Ron or Harry could ask any further questions, a Prefect came up behind them and shooed them out of the great hall. "Time for class! You wouldn't want to be late! Get a move on!"

Ron scowled, "He sounds like Percy."

Fred and George shivered. Harry laughed quietly at their reactions and led Leas to their first Transfiguration class of that year.
