NYC OVER THIRTY CHAT ROOM
Based on the movie "You've Got Mail"

Over 30 Chat Room

Shopgirl: Hi, you people, I’ve never done this before (well, I’ve looked but not “spoken”).

Maniacperson: You came to the right place; we’re a friendly group here.

NY152: Welcome. We also have fun discussing our interests here- books, music, all the great places in NYC, and so forth.

Missmidnight: Welcome, that is- if you really are over 30. No teenyboppers allowed!

Shopgirl: Believe me, I’m no teen, I just turned thirty today.

Maniacperson: Let me be the first to “happy birthday” you here! Did you have a party today?

Shopgirl: I sort of had a party at work. I’m rather tired out from it and just want to talk to the “void” for a while.

Maniacperson: Hum. We must be “the void”! I’m insulted.

Shopgirl: Don’t be. We’re over thirty, remember. We don’t get insulted that easily.

Ny152: Speaking as a bonafide member of “the void”, I’m not insulted, I understand completely. Getting away from my world, just talking to people here of like mind- I truly enjoy it.

Missmidnight: What kind of stuff did you do at your party that tired you out?

Shopgirl: The usual. We had a big cake that looked like an open book. Each time a piece of cake was given out, the recipient had to recite a quote from their favorite book or movie. That was sort of fun to do.

Ny152: And your quote was…?

Shopgirl: "From all that I can collect by your manner of talking, you must be two of the silliest girls in the country. I have suspected it some time, but I am now convinced."

Maniacperson: Humph. Once again, I am insulted by this newbie!

MissMidnight: No, that was her quote, though you are silly. Where’s it from SG?

Shopgirl: Pride and Prejudice, 7th chapter.

NY152: We can play that here: Listen to this: “The great big city's a wonderous toy
Just made for a girl and boy.”*

Missmidnight: That’s not from a book or a movie. It’s from a song.

Ny152: Well, that’s true. Since moving here from Vancouver, I’ve been memorizing all the Old New York songs. New York is becoming my favorite place in the whole world. However, Here’s a quote from a movie, since you’re particular:

“It's an old habit. I spent my life trying not to be careless. Women and children can be careless but not men.”**

I’ll leave it to you as to where it’s from.

Missmidnight: Knowing you, we all can guess where it’s from! Now back to SG’s party. What else did you do that made you so tired, SG?

Shopgirl: Nothing really, it was all fun, actually. I guess I was missing my mother. She died a few months ago. She’s been at all my birthday parties before this, naturally enough.

Missmidnight: Your mom came to your parties at your work?

Shopgirl: Well, it was her work too- in fact she was the boss.

NY152: What kind of place do you work at?

Shopgirl: No specifics, please. I want to keep you people as part of the anonymous void. You are more enjoyable for me this way.

NY152: Well ok. But I’m curious about that “book” cake. I’m guessing that you work in at the NYPublic library, one of my favorite places.

Shopgirl: Mine too! But sadly, I don’t work there.

NY152: I see on your Email address on your profile. No specifics from the void, but don’t be surprised if you get an Email from me soon. It is your birthday after all. Don’t you think NYC is the best place to be for your birthday?

Shopgirl: I do! I love it here! Guess what I got for my birthday! Tickets to Annie! I’ve wanted to see it since it opened last year!

Maniacperson: Once again I’m insulted! (Just kidding). However I’ve been trying to get good tickets to Annie for months. Your friends must have contacts.

Shopgirl: Well. I’m getting out of here. I open extra early tomorrow morning.

Ny152: You take care, Shopgirl.

Maniacperson: Bye now

Missmidnight: Have fun seeing Annie. And come back and see us!

Shopgirl: I will, and I will visit this chat room again, I like you guys. Bye!

The end
