A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ALEX O'CONNELL

Disclaimer:  TM and TMR belong to Stephen Sommers, and Universal Studios, and not me, I am only going to use the characters for just a bit.

It was barely light outside, and Alex was awake.  He was an early riser, unlike the rest of his family, and fully ready to go on an adventure.  He slipped out of bed, not caring to put on his socks, or his slippers, and ran out of his room, and down the hall, out to the stairs, but avoided them, and went to the hall that led to Uncle Johns part of the house.  When he got to the door, it was closed tight.  For a moment, the 3 year old little boy just stood there, then he reached up and took the knob in his small hand and twisted it until it opened.

It was the sound of the door opening that woke Jonathan, and he wished he would have locked that door.  He pulled the covers over he, and the girl laying beside him, knowing that if Alex saw her he was dead meat.

“Uncle John, come play wif me,” came Alex’s happy request.

“Uh, well see, I need to get my cloths on, so will you go without me, and I’ll be there in a little bit.”

“I wait for you,”  Alex responded.  This was not going to be easy, and to top things, Ella began to move about, which caught Alex’s attention.

“Who dat?”  Alex asked now curios

“Uh just me stretching.  Tell you what partner, Unca John has a big surprise for you, but you have to go back to your room and wait, can you do that.”  Alex ran out, and Jonathan lay back against the pillow thanking god for bribes.

“Ella, I need to get you out of here,” he said to his date.   Once they were dressed, Jonathan walked her down to his entry to the house and she left in her car.  Now that she was gone, Jonathan had to figure out what to do for Alex and his surprise.  He went back up into his room ,and looked around at a loss of what too do, so perhaps he should just take him out to the park, and get him candy.

In his room Alex was getting tired of waiting.  He had already rocked on his rocking horse, already road around the room on his hobby horse, what was left to do. Finally the door opened.

“Uncle John that was long time,”  Alex said.

“Right you are partner.  I thought we would go to the park.”  That got a happy response from Alex, who jumped up and down.

“We need to go tell your mum and dad.”  Jonathan said getting out cloths for his nephew to wear.

“I go do it.”  Before Jonathan could say anything, Alex ran down the hall to his parents room and launched himself onto their bed, waking both of them.

“Uncle John me going to park now.”  Still sleep tousled, and not able to pick up his fast speech, Rick lifted Alex to sit on his chest.

“Where are you going?”  Alex sighed.

“I going to park wif  Uncle John said we could do it I going now,”  Alex said in one breath.

“Alex baby, not today, we need to go get you some new cloths,”  Evelyn said, knowing that he would not like that.

“But Uncle John said so,”  he replied matter of factly.

“Evy what would it hurt, its still early, and by the time we get going, they will be back.”  She nodded, to tired to explain to him that if Alex got tired shopping would not be a fun experience, but then again if she took Rick with her she would have some sort of support.

“Go on,”  Rick told Alex.  He lowered him to the floor, and Alex ran out screaming “I going to park,” over and over, making both of his parents chuckle

Since it was still fairly early in the moring, there were not a whole lot of people in the park.  That didn’t matter to Alex, who as soon as he was set down, took off for the swings, and the climbing bars.  Jonathan walked at a slower pace, not too worried about Alex being ahead of him.  When he got to the play area, he sat down on a bench, wishing he were back in bed.  He loved  Alex, but sometimes he thought being on his own would be better.

“Uncle John come on and help push me.”   Alex yelled.  Jonathan came over to the swings and lifted his nephew on one, then pulled him, and the swing back and let go.  Alex laughed as he went higher and higher.

“I flying like bird.”  Suddenly Alex let go and launched himself out of the swing,  falling face down in the sand.  A frantic Jonathan came to his side.

“Alex!”  He gently lifted Alex into his arms.

“I didn’t fly,”  came the boys reply.  Jonathan hugged him tight, happy there were no injuries.  When Alex pulled away, is when Jonathan found that blood was coming out of his mouth.

“Say Alex, can you open your mouth for me?”  Alex did what his Uncle wanted, and his front baby tooth was gone.  Jonathan got out his handkerchief, and dabbed where they tooth had been, letting Alex hold that while they headed home.

In the kitchen, Rick and Evelyn had just sat down to breakfast, when Jonathan came in with Alex in tow.

“That was a fast trip,”  Evelyn commented to them.

“Well we had a slight mishap,”  Jonathan said.

“My toof went bye bye,”  Alex said not one bit afraid by this, and it got both his mum and his dad’s attention.  He let both of them take a look.

“I think he may have swallowed his tooth.  He was on the swing, and he let go and fell face first into the sand.”  Alex was sitting on Rick’s lap quite comfortable, eating scrambled eggs.

“I better call  the doctor,”  Evelyn said as she hurried to the phone.

“I guess I’ll be going back to bed.”  He felt bad about Alex getting hurt on his count, and wished that he would not have pushed him so high.

“Jonathan, don’t feel bad, he probably would have done the same thing with us there,” Rick reassured.  That did help Jonathan’s nerves, and he went back to bed.  For the first time, Rick noticed that his plate was being emptied by his son.

“Are you going to share?” Rick asked kissing the top of his little boys head.

“Yes,”  Alex took some eggs in his fingers, and turned, putting it into his dads mouth, laughing when Rick made grumbling noises as he ate.  Next Alex got a piece of bacon, and again his dad made silly noises

“Your Silly daddy,”  Alex told him.

“I am?”  Rick cradled Alex in his arms and lowered his head nibbling his neck and his belly.  Then Evelyn came over, and he sat Alex up.

“Doctor Brown says not to worry, if he did swallow it that it will pass in a few days.”  Rick nodded.

“Mum want eggs?”  Alex got some and Evelyn took a bite from him, then Alex wanted down ready to go play with his toys.

A little later that day, the three of them were in town, at one of the big stores getting cloths for Alex ,who grew out of them faster than they could buy them.  Alex road in his stroller, though he was getting tired of sitting, so while mum and dad were otherwise occupied,  Alex left his Stroller and took off toward a huge rack of cloths, and hid there.  When  Rick turned around, he found that Alex was gone.

“Evy,  our son has disappeared on us.”  She looked up from her search for dress pants for him, and dropped what she had.

“Where could he be.”  She was panicked, and Rick took he into his arms.

“He is somewhere in here, and us being calm is going to be better than us not.”  This she knew, and forced herself to relax.  Suddenly someone screamed, and they found their son.  Alex had stuck his arm out of the rack and scared the daylights out of a young woman.  Both Rick and Evy hurried over and apologized.

“Well you should keep a closer watch on him,”  The woman said walking off.  Rick wanted to say something in return and would have, but he had Alex in his arms, and didn’t want to teach him bad words.

“I want down,”  Alex said beginning to struggle.

“We need to hurry this along,”  Rick told his wife as he lifted Alex onto his shoulders.  Alex liked that, and for now he was good.

The next stop was lunch, in a small restaurant.  They got a table toward the back of the room, and when Evelyn tried to put him in the high chair, she got immediate protest.

“Noooo,”  Alex yelled.  Evelyn sat down in her chair ,and Alex tried to slide off of her lap.

“Alex, you can either sit with me, or in your high chair,”  Evelyn said softly.  He didn’t want to do either, and Rick stood and came to them lifting Alex into his arms.

“We’ll be back.”  He took Alex outside where there was a little place to run around, and let him do just that for about five minutes.  Then when they went back into the restaurant things went much better.  They ordered their food, and let Alex have some of what they had order, and he sat quietly in his highchair.

Bye evening he was a terror to behold.  He had gotten in a small nap, not enough to do him any good, and was doing things he knew he wasn’t supposed to do.  Right now mum and dad were playing chess, and he decided to go up to their room.  Their room was a big no no , but the best things were in there, and Alex decided to go for the closet.  It had a latch lock just above the knob which was too high for Alex to reach, but today he pulled a chair up, climbed onto it, and undid the lock.  Once he had the chair moved he opened the large walk in closet.  Inside were all sorts of things.  His mum’s dresses, dads slacks, and different coats and shirts, lots of shoes, and in the back a very large bag.  Alex went for the bag and opened it finding in it lots of pointy things, and something a little heavy and shiny with a hole in the end.  Alex looked in the hole wondering what in the world he had.  He stood and carried it out into the room to get a better look at it.

Downstairs Evelyn beat her husband at chess again.

“It’s easier to play with Jonathan,”  Rick mumbled.  She grinned, then looked around.

“Where is Alex?”  Rick noticed too, that their little boy was no where to be found.

“You look down here.  I’ll go see if he is in his room.”  She nodded and  Rick headed upstairs.  Halfway up he heard a gunshot and froze.  Evelyn screamed and they both ran for their room.  Inside Alex was laying on the floor stunned but unharmed.

“Oh thank god.”  Rick lifted Alex into his arms and held him tight.

“Was very noisy,”  Alex told his dad, and mum.

“Is he hurt?”  Rick placed him in Evy’s arms.

“No, but I don’t think the wall will be the same.”  The wall had a nice hole in it where the bullet had gone in, and both were ever grateful that it wasn’t Alex who had gotten shot.  Evelyn sat down with her baby.

“Alex what you did was very naughty.  You know not to come in here without your daddy or myself,”  Evelyn explained.

“I’m sorry mum,”  came his tearful reply.

“Let’s get you ready for bed.”

“No bed.”  She stood with him in her arms.

“Yes, bed.”  He screamed, but mum was immune to it, and got him ready for bed despite any attempts by him to stop her.  While she was tending to him, Rick had gathered his gun bag, and gear, and taken them out to his car putting them in his trunk, where he locked it up with a key.  His heart was still racing, and he felt guilty that Alex had even been able to get into his guns.  Now as he entered his son’s room his heart was slowing, and he came over to Alex’s bed and knelt down.

“Mum said I naughty for dat.”  Rick kissed Alex’s cheek.

“That was very dangerous, you could have been  hurt very badly.”  Alex yawned, and both his parents kissed him goodnight and left him to sleep going to their own room.  Once there they embraced.

“I never thought he would get into them,”  Rick said in a shaky voice.

“He’s very smart, what did you do with them?”  She asked.

“I put them in the trunk of my car, and when he’s old enough, well really now I’m going to explain to him how they are not toys.”  She nodded and lifted her head as he lowered his, and they kissed.  When they parted both of them needed that togetherness that only love could bring, so Rick left the door cracked, then they moved to their bed to release the passion that was unending.

THE END

Note:  Like I said it really didn’t have a plot but we will just call this a filler until I can think up something good to write.  Comments Welcome as long as you can be nice.
