MARRIED LIFE

Epilogue

For as long as he could remember, over the head board of his bed was a frame, and inside of it was the feathers of a bird, some sand, and a tiny leather bracelet.  Now as five year old Alex sat in bed waiting for his bed time story, he had decided to ask his mum what all that was about.  When she came in, and when she was settled in bed, Alex yawned, then asked his question.

“Mum what is all of that in that picture?”  he asked.  Evelyn smiled, and sat up.  Carefully she took the frame down, and more carefully opened it up.

“Before you were born, Mummy and Daddy had an adventure in Egypt.  I was lost there you see, and daddy had the help of some very special friends.  These feathers are from the Falcon who brought the message of my where abouts,”  Evelyn said.  Though that part was not entirely true, she would tell Alex the full story of his birth when he was old enough to understand.

“Why is there sand?”  he asked.

“The sand represents Egypt.  You were born in the Med-jai village.  A few days after you were born, the leader of the Med-jai gave you this bracelet in a special ceremony where we gave you your name.

“Uncle John said they attacked you one time when you were at Homnatra,”  Alex said sleepily.

“That was before they knew us,”  she replied as she put the frame back together, then put the picture back in its place.  Not pleased that Jonathan was telling Alex about that time in their lives, she made it a point to see him once her baby was asleep.

“Did I get an Egyptian name?”  Alex asked.  Evie smiled.

“Yes, Issa, which means god saves.  When you were born you were not breathing like you should be, and our friends believe like us that god saved you, spared you and brought you back to us,”  Evelyn said holding him closer.

“Were you sad?”  he asked.

“Yes but you are here now, and thats all that matters,”  she said. Just as he drifted to sleep, Rick walked in, and once Evie had gotten out of his bed, both of them tucked him in, then stood watching him.  Both of them knew that more than once that they had been looked after, and both were thankful that they had their love, and a wonderful little boy who made their lives complete.
