THE TERRIBLE TWOS

Disclaimer: They are not mine, just borrowing them thank you Note: Well after writing Christina, I'm down in the depths of depression, so I'm going to do another Alex story, and hopefully that will get my mood back into the swing of things. Here goes

It had been a month, since the O'Connell's move to London, and things were getting into a routine. Evelyn was working at the Museum, as head of the Egyptian Section. She worked half days, so she could have time for Rick, and for Alex. She really loved her job, not so much the Curator who was a shifty fellow, but everyone else she worked with were real delightful to be around. While Evelyn worked, Rick managed things around the house, making sure that everyone showed up who needed to be there, like the gardener, and Marie. He was also in charge of Alex, who was head strong and ready to get into any sort of mischief he could find. Last but not least there was Jonathan, who although had not been all that happy about coming back, had found his places to drink and be merry. Life was actually normal, and they were all glad for that.

This morning started out as every other morning began, with some early morning loving. Now Evelyn lay in her husband's arms after a most intense session of love making, still out of breath, but loving how she felt. She lifted her head to look in his eyes.

"Where did that come from?" she asked the man she love with all her heart. As a response Rick lowered his head and kissed her lightly on her full lips.

"I'm not sure, but we could find out." She rested her head on his chest.

"I wish I could stay here and do just that, but some new artifacts are arriving at the Museum, and I have to catalog them, and prepare the for display," She said sighing. The silence of the morning was broken by Alex's cry, and that was never a good start. If he woke up crying, then that generally meant a long day was ahead of them. Both of them got up, and while Evelyn headed for the bath, Rick pulled on some Jeans, and walked down to his son's room. Alex was sitting in his crib with his hair going in every direction.

"Hey buddy," Rick said coming over to him.

"Noo! not ooo," he said in a hateful tone.

"I'm sorry, but your mum is getting ready for work, so its me, or you stay where you are," Rick said waiting for Alex to make up his mind. Alex took a book and started to hold it back to throw.

"Alex if you throw that at me, you’re going to be in big trouble," Rick said, knowing this was going to be a long day.

"I unt mum not ooo," he said, setting the book back on his mattress.

"If you let me get you out, then I'll take you in to see her." Alex shook his head, so Rick left, and he started to scream. When he arrived back in their room, Evelyn was dressed, putting her hair up.

"He is in a very bad mood." Rick said, coming behind her, and kissing her neck. Evelyn leaned her head back against his chest.

"I'll go get him started, I've still got another hour before I need to be there." Rick nodded, and she finished what she was doing, and then went into her baby's room. Alex was laying on his side screaming at the top of his lungs.

"Alex," she said loud enough for him to hear her. He stood and she lifted him out. Once in his mother’s arms he calmed down.

"Go wif oo day," he told her, as she moved to his dresser, to get out some overalls, and a long shirt for him to wear.

"I think daddy wants to take you to the park," she said laying him on the bed, removing his pajamas. Alex pouted, then laughed as she nibbled on his belly.

"Top, ticks mum ticks," She nibbled his belly, then his neck and ears, before she finally stopped. Once she had him dressed, and got his hair brushed down as best she could, she set him down, or tried but he held on.

"No, old me mum," he said. She shifted him to her right hip, then headed down to the kitchen where Rick and Jonathan were having coffee, and where Marie was making breakfast. Marie came to take Alex from his mum, to put him in his seat, and Alex hit her, not hard, but the fact that he had hit, was not good.

"Alexander O'Connell, you do not hit." Evelyn pulled a chair to one of the corners of the kitchen and settled him in, and he screamed and cried. Evelyn went over to Marie.

"I am so sorry," she said to Marie.

"Not to worry Mrs. Evelyn, he's just being a two year old." Evelyn still felt bad that he had done that. In his seat, Alex was still crying, and after a minute, Evie went back to him.

"Now, are you ready to behave?" she asked him.

"No I not!" Rick got up from the table, and lifted Alex out of his seat slinging him over his shoulder and carried him back up to his room and laid him in his crib.

"If you can't behave, then you can go back to sleep," Rick said firmly. Alex threw his book out, and hit Rick on his arm. That was the last straw. Rick stood him up, and gave him two swats, not hard, but enough so to get his attention, which it did.

"Daaadyy," Alex cried. Rick laid him down gently

"Take a rest, and I'll come get you in a little bit," Rick told him. Alex just cried, and Rick left the room, hating that he had to resort to spanking him. It was very rare that either of them did that, but there were times like today, when nothing else got through. When a couple of minutes had passed, Rick went back in, finding that Alex was sitting up, still crying. Rick went to the crib, and lifted his son out.

"I ood now," he sniffed. Rick kissed his cheek, then carried him back downstairs to have his breakfast, hoping that he had gotten this out of his system.

Sometimes, when Evelyn needed him too, Rick would go down the Museum, and help her catalog, more specifically do what she asked. It had been a quiet morning, and when Jonathan woke up he decided to take Alex outside to play, letting Rick leave for the Museum, thinking today would be a good day. Things were going well for them. They had taken a walk around the gardens, and gone into the woods, finding all sorts of bugs, which Alex love, and now they were rolling his big bouncy ball, when Marie called out that it was time for lunch, and that is when things turned around.

"No I not eaten not huny," Alex said running from his Uncle. Jonathan took off after him, and when he caught Alex, and lifted him in the air, Alex kicked him in the face. It took all he had not to drop the boy, Jonathan set him down, and Alex ran from him. For the first time in his life Jonathan felt anger toward Alex.

"Alexander stop now," He yelled. Alex rounded the house and kept going, running up the road, seeing his daddy's car on its way toward the house, and ran for the other side. In the car both Rick and Evelyn watched as Jonathan came from around the opposite side of the house holding his nose.

"Oh dear I think our son isn't over being naughty," Evelyn said as she got out of the car. Rick left the keys in the car and went the way Alex had gone. When he rounded the house, Alex was waiting, laughing now.

"Alex will you wait for daddy?" Then Rick wondered why he had just asked, because Alex took off again. Being the faster of the two, Rick was catching up to Alex very quickly. Evelyn came around the other side, and Alex ran for the woods with both parents hot on his tale. It was Rick who reached him first grabbing him by the shirt, then lifted him into his arms, and quickly holding him still while he had a big tantrum.

"Nooooo let go me now." He was mad, and more so now that he couldn't move. He screamed, and he cried, but daddy didn't let him go, and after a good three minutes he finally began to calm down. Rick had seated himself on the grass, knowing that until Alex calmed down there was no way to talk to him. It was about that time, that Evelyn came out of the house, after helping Jonathan with his bloody nose, finding things had quieted down. Alex was now cradled in his father’s arms still breathing hard, but calm.

"Alex, you need to tell Uncle John you’re sorry," she said, not at all happy with his behavior.

"No," he said. Rick glared at Alex, who in turn tried to get up and run again, but his father restrained him.

Alex no more. You will apologize to your Uncle, and you won't say no to your mum or me." Rick said sternly. Alex's bottom lip jutted out, then he began to cry. Not effected by the cries, Rick stood, and carried him as they went back inside, to the kitchen where Jonathan sat. Alex had a strangle hold on his fathers neck, crying hard, tired, but Rick wanted him to apologize.

"Alex, tell Uncle John you’re sorry," Rick said rubbing his back.

"Noo," he cried harder. Closing his eyes Rick counted to ten, and was glad when Evie walked in. She came over, and he went willingly into her arms.

"Tell Uncle John you’re sorry," she said softly, and for his mum he did so.

"I sowwy," he said still in tears. Jonathan hugged him.

"Thank you for telling me." Alex nodded, his head now resting on his mum's shoulder, evident that he was tired out. Not wanting to deal with fighting to get him to eat, Evie decided he could just have lunch when he woke up. Once they were in his room he had calmed down, and lay still while she changed his diaper, and once that was finished, she settled with him in his rocking chair. She had him cradled in her arms, and he looked up at her with the same eyes as his father. She leaned down and kissed his nose, and he closed his eyes. When he was asleep, and safe in his crib, Evelyn returned to the kitchen settling at the table for her lunch.

It was several hours later when he woke up, and this time no tears. Now he was sitting on his fathers lap in the parlor listening as everyone around him talked about things he really didn't understand.

"I down now," He said, looking up at Rick, who was talking to Jonathan about last nights incident with a girl in the house. Without stopping what he was saying, Rick lowered his son to the floor, and Alex ran over to his trucks, and played. For the rest of the day he was back to himself, which generally was a sweet cooperative little boy. There were only some days when he was ever that much of a handful, and everyone was thankful that days like these were rare, and few and far between.

Note: Another one of my lacking in plot stories. I just needed one that I could jumble stuff around, but I'm out of my sadness now, so I will try to finish what I started with Emma and Alex, might do a few more young Alex stories, but I promise I will finish that one just give me a chance.
