STORMY ACQUAINTANCES
Chapter one Tempestade Storm.
Her mane of raven black hair flowed behind her in the salty sea wind. She closed her eyes and breathed deeply enjoying the smell and the carefree feel of the tides.
“Captain a storm is approaching off the starboard side. What are your orders?” shouted Daniel her first mate and one of her closest and most trusted friends.
“Thanks Danni, have everyone get their life lines at the ready, it looks like its goin’ to be a fierce one” she replied her eyes flashing in anticipation of the oncoming storm. Daniel relayed the instructions on to the crew who immediately set about it. All the appropriate precautions were taken out on the ship, unnecessary sails were taken down and all lose objects were tied down.
“All right you bunch of scally wags, when this storm hits, its gunna hit hard and hit fast. I want everyone making sure we get through this, which means we need everyone on deck making sure this ship doesn’t go to Davy Jones’ locker.
Everyone is to have their life lines attached, there’s a reason we do gambling with money not lives gents, understood?” she said her facial expression daring anyone to challenge her authority and yet containing slight amusement at her own joke.
A chorus of Aye Captains echoed throughout the ship.
“Well what are you waiting for?!”
The rain poured down from the heavens and the lightning flashed across the sky in huge white and gold forks. The normally calm lull of the sea had ended, instead replaced by the enormous waves which broke against the hull of the ship causing an amazing display of water and colour flashing in the now moon lit sky.
The crew of el diamante muerto were busy at work emptying the water from the deck of the ship with buckets, as for the captain she was steering the ship in this deadly storm. She was drenched from head to toe as well as the rest of the crew, her normally wild and free hair was now plastered to her head it thick dreadlocks.
“Should we drop the anchor and canvas Cap’n?” one of the higher members of crew asked with slight anticipation of the captain’s anger for questioning her sailing abilities and her judgement of the storm.
“Nah, I reckon she can hold for a while longer yet. Is everyone wearing their lifelines as I asked?”
“Aye cap’n. Everyone is on deck just as ye asked as well”
“Good now get back to your post before there are consequences of you not being there, it would seem young John is already helpless with out your presence” she chuckled over the sounds of the storm.
The man turned around to see what the young lad had gotten himself in to this time. The sight before him would have been comical if it hadn’t been such a dangerous time. John was in the process of tying down one of the remaining boxes but the knot he was tying kept on coming undone so in his frustration had kicked the box, obviously underestimating both the thickness of the material the box was made from and his own strength, consequently he was hoping around yowling in obvious pain teetering dangerously near the side of the ship The man sighed heavily although this could not be heard as another boom of thunder sounded, he made his way down to steer the lad away from his position at the side of the ship and berate him for being so stupid and careless.
Just then a gigantic wave hit the ship causing the captain to let go of the wheel and as a consequence the ship made a sudden turn with the now rough tide.
An ear splitting crunch could be heard from the bowls of the ship as it hit some near by uncharted rocks. The crew was screaming in terror and disorientation.
The ships movement caused everything on board to jerk around, including the oil lanterns. One of the lanterns below deck fell over and started a fire which rapidly grew bigger.
The captains eyes widened in terror as she realised the way in which the fire was spreading, straight towards the barrels of gunpowder they had on board.
“Someone put that fire out NOW!!!!” she screeched at her able bodied crew.
The crew meanwhile just stood their in pure horror at what was happening.
“If you don’t out it out we’re all gunna die, don’t you see
that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????”
Before the crew could react to this statement from their captain there was a vociferous explosion and the crew was thrown from the ship including the captain, rubble rained down on them killing men as the large splinters hit them.
The captain watched her ship go down in to the depths before everything started fading away.
‘My ship, my beautiful diamante muerto!’ she thought to herself.
Her sole possession in the world was going to the locker of Davy Jones and she couldn’t even be on it like a proper Captain should. Instead she was floating meters away and she might as well be signing her death certificate.
The pain throughout her body became too much for her to handle and she sank in to the dark abyss of unconsciousness.
