THE ELITE FORCE
*Note from the Author: Just to let you know that only a few of the characters in this story actually belong to me. The rest is MARVEL's property.
Also, if you have not seen the movie, X-Men: The Last Stand, and do not want the ending to be spoiled... then I would suggest you stop reading. Of course, I did change a few things from the movie to suit my plot, but you'll probably be able to discover those for yourself.
That's all for now. If you have any constructional ideas, then let me know. It would be greatly appriaciated. Thanks and enjoy the chapter!
CHAPTER 1: Traveller
Silus sat in the small compartment of the train, briefly going over all the events that had taken place over the last few weeks. As the train engine roared and hugged a curve, she sat staring into space with the city of Boston flashing past the window. She could not remember anything in the last week.
What she did remember was that there had been a mutant-vs. -human war. She had been fighting in it… but nothing else.
She sighed and placed her hand on her forehead as though that would help her to remember her lost memories. It was such a strange feeling, knowing nothing and she hoped it was just a strange phase her mind was going through to register all of what had happened in so little time.
Firstly, a strange woman came to her to tell her that she needed her to help fight the humans and the ‘cure’, saying that Silus was in fact one of the most powerful mutants on the planet.
Secondly, Silus didn’t even know she was a mutant until after the woman had talked to her and getting her powers was one of the most heart-jolting things that have ever happened to her.
And thirdly, she fought in the war, but afterward… she can’t remember
anything.
Silus can remember her bitter past quiet well, but nothing about her last two weeks. Her past consisted of many trials of foster parents and many broken promises. Her life was a never-ending maze of unpredictable turns and many dead ends. Not to mention, usually out of her control, and Silus hated that.
And now… well, she was headed somewhere. Where?
“Oh, damn!” Silus snapped at herself as the train reared another turn into a more scenic landscape.
She couldn’t even remember where she was headed! This was not going well at all.
Just then, a couple of strange looking women stepped into Silus’s compartment. They were quite odd looking. One had red hair and brown eyes and the other had brown hair, save for a white streak down the front paired with brown eyes.
They looked at Silus when they entered and the redhead gestured to the empty seat across from Silus, and said, “Nowhere else is empty.”
Hesitantly, Silus nodded and allowed them the seat. She didn’t really want anyone’s company at the moment. Not if they were going to begin a conversation with her. They would find that they probably knew more than the speaker.
After settling herself down, the redhead held out her hand, and to Silus’s horror seemed to want to begin a ‘chat’.
“I’m Jean Grey,” she introduced herself. Silus reluctantly took her hand; might as well break some ice.
“And I’m Rogue,” said the streaked woman, with a smile. Silus noticed that she didn’t hold out her hand, but took that as a form of shyness and was thankful.
“Nice to meet you,” said Silus, simply.
“So, are you headed anywhere specific?” Silus found this a strange question to ask, but considered the person talking and replied rather sketchily.
“Uh,… visiting my grandmother,” she said.
“Oh, that’s nice. Off school for the summer, I suppose?” said Jean, with an odd look.
“Um… I graduated last year.” Silus said rather coolly.
“How old are you?” asked Jean, with curiosity.
“17,” replied Silus; at least she could remember her age.
“That’s really young to graduate.” Commented Rogue.
“I skipped a grade,” said Silus. Why were they asking so many questions?
“So, where are you headed?” she questioned, turning the table a bit.
“Bayville, small town,” replied Rogue, “Where does your grandmother live?”
Silus halted a little, and then decided to begin making stuff up. She said, “Oh, Bayville as well.”
The truth was that Silus didn’t know anything out of Boston and she figured that these two investigators would know if she was making up a place. Jean made a face of disbelieve, but kept her opinion to herself.
So, as the train dragged on through forest and field, Silus found herself listening to various accounts of different conversation between the two women. She had taken to gazing lazily out the window, but Jeans voice was penetrating her thoughts. Silus discovered that Jean was one of those know-it-all people who wouldn’t let the other person talk to share their opinion on the subject.
Besides that, their conversation was quite interesting. Silus found that while she was watching trees speed by, she was also eavesdropping on what they were saying.
It was something about a membership, or group of some sort. Kind of like what Silus was apart of during the war against the humans. Silus could not figure out if they were mutants or humans, and she didn’t want to ask. The human-mutant relationship had become icy and she didn’t want to uncover herself to them.
However, Silus was so interested in finding out what they were apart of, she built up the courage to ask them a few questions.
“So,” she said, uncomfortably, “What type of membership do you have?” And after seeing the offensive look on Jeans face, Silus added, “I’m sorry to eavesdrop, but it was kind of hard to ignore.”
Rogue smiled and glanced at Jean, who just nodded.
“We’re apart of a political group debating on Mutant Revolution,” Rogue
answered, in not-too-much detail.
“So, like the X-Men or whatever their called?” asked Silus, she knew that group. They rivalled against her side to protect the humans.
At the mention of the X-Men, Jean and Rogue glanced nervously at each other.
“How do you know about the X-Men?” asked Jean, curiously.
“Uh…” Oh crap, thought Silus. She quickly made something up, “I heard about them.” She said, “I heard a lot of things after…”
Blew it.
“The war?” finished Jean. Silus glared and silently swore at the window.
“Yah, it was all over the news,” said Silus. Saved!
“I see,” said Jean in an unconvinced tone.
Silus could feel her eyes on the back of her neck and she began to get a horrible headache.
“Do any of you have Advil?” asked Silus, finally turning around to face them.
But they were not there.
Silus hadn’t heard them leave. Their stuff was gone as well. It would have been a little obvious if the train had stopped off at a station, and Silus was apparently getting off at the same one as them. But that thought was driven from her mind when a cool voice of a woman rang over the PA system.
“The Sky Train will now be reaching it’s final destination: Bayville Station. Please, will all travellers make sure you have everything with you when you leave. Thank you for taking Blue Line Travel and have a nice day.”
Silus, still dazed and confused, swung her backpack over her shoulder and prepared to set foot into an unfamiliar territory.
